Are you ready to pay more for music after Halloween?

Most music product, vinyl, CDs, cassettes, is manufactured in the EU. Physical product is already costing more with the falling pound but will be even more expensive post Brexit. I’m hoping to buy the Abbey Road box set before the sh*t really hits the fan.

Downloads will also rise in price. The pound now isn’t worth the 99p tracks are priced at.

Streaming is unbelievably cheap at the moment but that is not sustainable in the medium and long term. Streaming firms all lose money hand over fist.

Live music will also be more expensive. Artists will need permits and all manner of paperwork to transport their equipment, their instruments and themselves to and from the UK, boosting the price.

Best to batten down the hatches and just enjoy the record collections we’ve already accumulated.

Choose A CD For Me

I still prefer a physical product but am loathe to pay extortionate postage & packing. I have had two items in my tax dodgers basket for some time now and am growing impatient. I need another item to qualify for free p&p. It needs to cost more than £5:03. I thought the good people of The Afterword could choose an item for me.

The rules are, in order of importance:

1. It has to be available from the Tax Dodgers 2. It must cost £5:03 or more (but not much more). 3. It has to be something I don’t already own. Please be aware I have catholic taste and already own thousands of CDs. 4. There needs to be a good chance I’d enjoy it.

The prizes are a pat on the back and my undying love.

I am the judge and jury and my decision is final.

In Defence of the CD

Worth a read. Adds to my (possibly shaky) argument that CDs are the format of choice. And if anyone is thinking of going fully digital and clearing their shelves of physical product, I know a place that will gladly re-home them.

(I know that the authors of the article can’t spell ‘Defence’ but please don’t let it detract from your reading of the article.)
