Offspring the Elder (16) and I are off to the Reading Festival tomorrow to catch Pip Blom (me), Billie Eilish (both) and 21 Pilots (her).
I haven’t been to Reading for 21 years. Is there anything else on the lineup I should catch?
If anyone fancies a pint/cuppa, get in touch.
Have other folks hoping to attend this received their tickets yet? We haven’t.
Please advise.
Also, should we try to engineer a mingle at this event? i will have junior and the only teenage girl – my daughter, sauceboxes – in the audience with me.

As regular AW podcast star Ola is coming to Dublin next week, there will be a going-out on the Friday night, January 15th. Where? Oh, somewhere “in town”. Time? 8pm seems sensible. I’ll figure out the details next week. Yeah? Who’s in??
Over in Facebook land it has emerged that at least 4 regulars here will be at the Unthanks gig at Union Chapel this Thursday. Any more to convene a mini-mingle, maybe in the bar at the Church?
No arrangements to meet have been made so far (at least not with The Light and I, but maybe everyone is avoiding us) but I will be in Islington all afternoon and am planning pizza at La Porchetta on Upper Street before the show. I’m likely to be wearing a bright red waistcoat which makes me visible from space, so say hello if you see me (I don’t get much chance to wear it, and something folky at festive at Union Chapel seems the ideal opportunity).

Aussie mingles are not a practical proposition, what with the distances and all. So I’m happy to report that this morning an Oz micro-mingle took place in Brisbane, consisting of the excellent Junior Wells and myself. T-shirts were compared, bit-rates revealed, gossip exchanged, bollocks may have been talked. Most enjoyable altogether, and may it happen again. Thanks to Chris for the venue and her excellent morning tea.

Drew Too, the lovely Nikki, and their daughter Kaitlyn joined me and my daughter Charlotte for dinner, drinks (for the adults), and much discussion of music tonight at the Firehouse Grill in Cincinnati, The girls shared games on their tablets, while the adults delved into the return of the Afterword website, albums vs. shuffle, and sports ( it is baseball’s opening day and college basketball’s tournament final here today). Artists discussed included Jason Isbell, Shelby Lynne, Sturgill Simpson, The Lone Bellow, The Flaming Lips, and Public Service Broadcasting. Other topics included travels in Venice (Drew had just been, me 30 years ago), a Michigan folk festival, and politics in Indiana. A very enjoyable evening for all! We were not quite sure how many mini mingles have been held, but we do know it is always a good time when we can get together. The next will probably be around Thanksgiving, so Dai and some of you other members of the Massive within driving distance should mark your calendars now! I’ll post a picture when my 14 year old shows me how, unless Nikki beats me to it!

The small but perfectly formed collective will meet next on Friday 6th March at Blue’s Smokehouse BBQ gaff in Bracknell. All welcome although vegetarians may have a problem with finding something to eat.

I’m talking about proposed London Mingle
I did suggest on the Mingle thread about using one of those polls, but have now decided that you can just vote here and state preferred date and venue and I’ll count them up and we’ll have come to a decision by the end of next week (February 27th).
So make your choices on:
1) I propose dates of either March 20th or March 27th (both Fridays)
2) A poll on aard-stryder’s suggestion of The Betjeman Arms (http://www.geronimo-inns.co.uk/london-the-betjemank) at Kings Cross / St Pancras stations against the old location of The King & The Queen in Foley Street.
For myself I can do both dates but lean towards the 28th and fancy the new Venue.
If we get enough takers I’ll sort out a booking with the venue

Well as we’re back up is anyone interested in a 2015 London mingle?
They seemed to have fallen out of favour with many if the low attendance at the last one is anything to go by, but a it’s been a long time, so if at least a dozen say they are up for it I’m in favour of going ahead, in say mid to late March
