Favourite Duane Allman track?

Today would have been Duane’s birthday. Someone just asked Jason Isbell what his favourite DA track is. Jason picked Dreams. Immediately, Duane’s ‘successor’, Derek Trucks, jumped onto the conversation, saying he agreed.

When it’s those two agreeing, it would be hard to argue. What say you, Afterword Hive Mind?

Jason Isbell – count the days until May

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are releasing a new album in May, according to Rolling Stone. The album, titled Reunions, will be out on May 15th. Dave Cobb is once again the man at the control panel. There is no news of any UK or European tour dates yet. Here’s a taster of what to expect – Be Afraid

Better than the original?

This cropped up in my Discovery playlist on Spotify. I’m aware of the Elbow original but Lang Lang playing this under Jason Isbell’s soaring vocal is just stunning.

I know we’ve done ‘better than the original’ to death but I think this qualifies.

Sailing over the horizon – a new Jason Isbell album

June will be Jason – Here is a date for the diary – June 16th 2017

Jason Isbell releases his new album The Nashville Sound. It’s being advertised as being with the 400 Unit, though as they play on his ‘solo’ albums I’m not sure how much difference this will make.

Whatever, it’s something to look forward to, in a big way.

Rejoice. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will be touring the UK in October. As a HUGE bonus, support is being provided by Tift Merritt (see my recent review in Nights Out for confirmation of her excellence).

Dates so far confirmed:

Wednesday 25th October Manchester Albert Hall Thursday 26th October Glasgow O2 ABC Sunday 29th October Brighton Dome Monday 30th October London Roundhouse Tuesday 31st October Birmingham Symphony Hall

Given that Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th are still free, I’d expect a couple more to be added

Jason Isbell – Something More Than Free

I’m trying to cheer myself up. A spark of good news is Jason’s new album is out on July 17th.

He’s doing a big US tour that currently goes through to August. Maybe we can hope for UK dates towards the end of the year.

Meanwhile Dave Cobb, Jason’s producer has been working with the guy in the video – Chris Stapleton. I think this song, Traveller, the title of his debut album sounds might fine.
