With restrictions on crowds at gigs in the UK set to end on July 19 “Freedom Day” – if only until something else horrible causes a return of restrictions – how confident are you guys about seeing more shows?
Sturgill Simpson at Dublin’s splendid 1,200 capacity Vicar Street preceded by The Felice Brothers at the city’s equally excellent and much more intimate Whelans. Both were in their own way very disappointing. Last really good gig I saw in the Before Time was Richard Thompson at Galway Town Hall in October 2019.

Grant Lee Philips (Whelans, Dec this year), Sparks (Vicar St) and Nick Mason’s SofS (Dublin Conv Centre) both April 2022. All bookings obviously subject to change with everything now routinely just shoved forward 6 and more often than not 12 months. The rescheduled Nick Mason gig, for example, is currently set to take place almost exactly two years after its original date.
How confident am I of getting to see more gigs?
