Available for another 20 days or so – a splendid BBC Radio 3 hour with Martin & Eliza Carthy and homages to departed musical family members, presented by Kathryn Tickell. 🙂
Norma Waterson RIP
After a long period of ill health grande dame of folk Norma Waterson has died at the age of 82. When Norma sang a song it bloody well stayed sung, to the extent that it was hard to imagine why anyone else would bother trying it.
A Rather Fantastic New Podcast – Folk On Foot
This podcast turned up on my twitter feed today; I thought it sounded good, I had a listen, and I think I need to recommend it here.
Folk On Foot is presented by Matthew Bannister, the former Radio 1 boss who does The Last Word on Radio 4. He meets folk musicians and goes for a walk in the countryside with them; the podcast also has live songs. I just listened to the one with Eliza Carthy where they wander around Robin Hood Bay and it’s genuinely marvellous.
I reckon there’s a lot of folks here who will like it.
