Paging @leicester-bangs @kid-dynamite @deviant808 @kaisfatdad and anyone else who’s interested in electronica. The Guardian have a list of the ten best mixes of 2018 up now and most of them are currently downloadable from soundcloud, straight from the link. As we say round here fill yer boots! Not a clue if Ziur, Forest Drive West or Leif are triumphs or tragedies but that’s some good headphone listening over the hols sorted.
Greetings all and apologies for the imposition. I’m looking for the old Word Podcasts – specifically the ones that were available for subscribers only (I know all about the ‘free edition.’) Particularly, the Guy Pratt Basscast, episode 201 – where might I find the rather great full version rather than the 16:47 cutdown?
I’m sure this has been asked before, so appreciate your forebearance, grovel grovel etc.
A few years ago I painstakingly converted my albums and some singles of Zimbabwean pop from the halcyon days of the early 80s editing out pops and clicks etc. Took forever.
I sent them off to my friend Matt Temple who now runs Matsuli Records in London.
He is making the 4 volumes available for download.
The pictures are from my time seeing bands in Harare 1981/82.
I seem to have got on a mailing list which is suggesting I attend the “Bonnaroo” festival, which is in Tennessee so it’s a little impractical…
But they did send a link to a free 38 track download sampler which I’m just downloading now.
It includes “Pedestrian At Best” from Courtney Barnett, which makes it worthwhile on it’s own if you haven’t heard that yet, but also has other AW-friendly acts such as Hurray For The Riff Raff, Rhiannon Giddens and Brandi Carlile, along with Run The Jewels, The Do, Glass Animals and a load of stuff I don’t recognise.
Though – based on nothing more than their names – I am intrigued by “The Earls Of Leicester” (guess where I live?) and “Trampled By Turtles”.
