On the Move was an adult literacy programme that used to be on at a time (Sunday mornings?) when there was nothing else on. These days, it would get no accidental exposure at all – but in the old days, it got a default audience (i.e. people like me) by dint of being the only thing on.
As a child, I loved the telly and although it was good to have interesting or funny things to watch – that was by no means necessary. Like the crowds that flocked to watch the first traffic lights change in Leeds, I think I was transfixed by colour television. The hairy, painfully thin man in front of a blackboard on the Open University? Fine by me. Peter Donaldson’s Illustrated Economics? You betcha!
