Hi everyone. I’m sure this clarion call goes out a few times a year, but Mrs. Mickey and myself are downsizing, and one of the casualties will be my Mojo & Word covermount CDs. I have hundreds of the things, probably complete sets (though I can’t be bothered to check), but I think we’ve established in the past that there’s no “market” for them (for obvious reasons), so would anyone here want them, free to a good home? I’m in Essex, 10 minutes from the M25, prepared to drop off somewhere reasonably nearby, or is there anyone out there who’s prepared to come and collect? Cheers!
Unavailable albums (not a RSD post)
It is easy on t’internet to find out about total UK, US or World sales of ‘product’ released on vinyl and CD. However, what I would like to know is how many albums have never been released on CD and, indeed, how many albums have never been released/re-released on vinyl? Examples of albums that have never been released in one format or another would be most welcome. I can’t e.g. locate an official CD release of Soft Machine’s “Land of Cockayne” or Kevin Coyne’s “Beautiful Extremes etc”, originally on Cherry Red.
How much music have you got?
I’m specifically interested in your physical collection – albums and singles
I’m at the stage now where I probably have enough but I can’t stop snapping up bargains especially cds and I was curious about where I stand in comparison to other Afterworders
I have 485 Lps, 675 7″‘singles, 160 12″ singles 600 cd albums 115 cd singles 40 cassette albums
How about you?
ATM – can’t burn audio CDs on PC?
A technical query here for you geniuses of The Massive. My PC has suddenly decided to stop burning audio CDs – I’ve tried both iTunes (my usual method) and Windows Media Player, and in both cases, the burn seems to go OK for 10-15 seconds before the programme completely hangs with no error messages, and I have to shut down the programme via task manager to use the PC again.
It doesn’t seem to be a problem with the drive, as I can listen to and rip audio CDs, and also burn data CDs (and I can watch, rip and burn DVDs, no problem), it’s just burning audio CDs which is the problem…
Any easy solutions or even troubleshooting tips would be appreciated – thank you all!
3 Word reviews- has this been done here before?
I’ve bought a number of cheap used cds recently and thought to share my very brief thoughts.
Richard Hawley – Richard Hawley; First timeless classic
Bruce Hornsby – The Way It Is : Pleasant “Baywatch” backing
The Strands – The Magical World Of.. : Delightful, poetic psychedelia
St Vincent – St Vincent : Excellent quirky original
any more?
In Defence of the CD
Worth a read. Adds to my (possibly shaky) argument that CDs are the format of choice. And if anyone is thinking of going fully digital and clearing their shelves of physical product, I know a place that will gladly re-home them.
(I know that the authors of the article can’t spell ‘Defence’ but please don’t let it detract from your reading of the article.)

Do you have enough Dead?
If not you might be pleased to learn they are releasing an 80 (that’s not a typo, that’s eighty) disc set of live gigs.

I’m flabbergasted. Will anyone actually listen to 80 discs? It beggars belief, but Deadheads are known to be obsessive.
I know we have some Deadheads hereabouts. Are any of you thinking “Why yes!. There is a gap in my Dead collection and it’s about 80 discs long” and shell out for this?

What do you call it – album, record, CD?
For example The Unthanks new “product” – how do you refer to it when you are talking about it?
I tend to use the word “album”, cos I’m such a 1971 kind of guy, although in reality usually I’ve bought a CD. If I’ve downloaded the – er, product (in which case it’s not a CD) then “album” seems to also cover the digital experience.
I have a friend in NZ who is a music journalist (of my vintage although a bit younger) who ALWAYS uses the word “record”, which I love.
What’s your preferred nomenclature, and why?
