For those who like Stewart Lee, and possibly for those who hate him too, there’s a brilliant interview with him on The Comedian’s Comedian podcast, where among other things he explains the character ‘stewart lee’ that he’s playing (or maybe it’s multiple “characters”) and why he approaches some things the way he does. I found it very interesting, but it is very long though, around 2 hours…

Yes, it was really good and worth two hours of your time. I thought he could have been pushed more on the ‘character of Stewart Lee’ aspect, which has always bothered me.
But Stuart Goldsmith is a brilliant and perceptive interviewer.
The Comedian’s Comedian is an excellent podcast and the Lee episode is one of the best. I’d recommend Stuart Goldsmith’s podcast to anyone with an interest in comedy.
I’m easy behind with comcompod mainly because I listen to them all but I’ll fast forward to this one. Do we find out if either SL or the character SL is happy?
We sort-of find out.
Sadly we don’t get to find out what would be on his comedy gravestone. 🙂
A very interesting and enjoyable episode. We were at the Saturday night Brighton Dome show mentioned, it was a very good night which he seemed to enjoy. We didn’t notice the audience problems (except when he jumped off the stage to berate a women who was using a phone) But we were upstairs.
Absolutely fascinating, thanks for the heads up.
FWIW, here’s an old WTF podcast thats available on Youtube (not a download) where he talks about the tribulations of Jerry Springer The Opera much more vehemently than he does in his book… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xkVtq1AURU
And the very next episode is Russell Brand…haven’t heard it yet, but it is going top of the queue.
