I really like it. Apart from the not-dissimilar Love Spreads, I prefer it to anything on Second Coming. I’d call it a return to form rather than “regurgitating old stuff”.
S’funny. I was only recently thinking that was a neat summation of your critique of post-1980 music, Saucemeister: you seemed to think it’s either pointlessly and self-deludingly weird just for the sake of it, or it’s rehashing stuff that has been done better in previous decades..
It’s certainly better. All For One was a massive disappointment, this one is… growing on me. Not a great fan of the production on either record though – Mani must be wondering what he’s there for.
As predictably mediocre as the rest of their catalogue. I’ve always found them pleasant enough, but the massive idolatry they receive has always baffled me.
Sounds like a Kula Shaker B Side. I can’t help but admire them for being the biggest bunch of chancers in rock history – selling out stadiums on the strength of one album, a few singles and a couple of tracks off their second album. Is there another band who have made so little talent and ideas go such a long way? I’m not sure there is.
Take the words “so little talent” out of your post and (as someone who adores that first album but little else) I’d agree with you, Dr V. But Wren and Squire are outstandingly talented musicians.
My bro saw them at a warm up gig in Halifax last week – said they didn’t do any new (except maybe All For One).
He said they were great. Brown was ace as a front man but crap as a singer. Didn t matter as the crowd sang all the words anyway.

Agreed. Back to 1989, and none the worse for that!

Nice tune, good vibe. So what was that ‘All For One’ bollocks about then?
H.P. Saucecraft says
I reckon “All For One” will sound fine on the album. Totes forward-looking!
Cozzer says
Maybe it will be played backwards?

Has the potential to start a thread called something like “songs that were only made bearable by a 7 inch edit”..

This one sounds like EMF.

Another disappointing effort.
Regurgitating the old stuff, it’s what I’d expect Oasis to do.

If they try something a little different, they get kicked in the bollocks. If they come up with similar stuff, they get kicked in the nuts.
I like very nearly everything they’ve done, including these two new tracks.
People are so picky.
Picky.

There are exceptions to everything. The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and a few others have made the Permanent List.

Don’t forget Beyonce.

How can I forget her when she won’t get out of my car?

Mani is there to stop Squire and Wren from throwing heavy objects at each other.

Agree with this. Thank god those baggy jeans and gardening hats died out, too.
