What does it sound like?:
This is a three sided vinyl compilation (with download code) covering songs from the period 2003-2015.The album has been personally curated by Steven Wilson to cover the more accessible side of his work, and as such, concentrates on shorter, more song based material.
Among the material chosen is two songs from ‘The Raven’ and three from this year’s ‘Hand Cannot Erase’, plus a cover of Alanis Morrisette’s ‘Thank You’ from his covers album.
Some of these are specially produced edits/single versions, although the single version of ‘Transience’, is actually longer than the album track.
Probably the centre piece of the album is a new version of Porcupine Tree’s ‘Lazarus’ based on a 2015 live recording with subsequent studio overdubs.
What does it all *mean*?
Three sided vinyl is a slightly odd and indeed quirky way to introduce yourself to new fans – the fourth side is an etching of lyrics – but there is a download code as well.
Goes well with…
Fans who like prog that isn’t too difficult to get into and is easy on the ear should try this and then dig deeper into his solo albums plus his work with Porcupine Tree.

Might suit people who like…
If you want an introduction to Steven Wilson’s work, perhaps only being familiar with the name from his extensive work remixing classic prog albums, then this is a good place to get acquainted with his own music.

Ooh, I didn’t know about this.
As the GLW is out, I shall be playing some vinyl later.
Shame this isn’t available digitally – although all of the tracks are available elsewhere (the new vs of Lazarus is on this months MOJO cover mounted cd.
The more I play HCE the more I love it – the first track (First Regret) is just wonderful – now one of my favourite prog tracks of all time (some praise !)
Just wondering, anyone here got tickets for his UK gigs around January ?
I’m pleased to say I have a couple of tickets for next year. Hammy Odeon possibly….
This is the future of Music.
I was thinking I might go see him on 28/29 September, as tickets aren’t too expensive via Seatwave. Anyone here going?
Me and the Twangster are going on 27th January
I’m going on 27th January too, we must meet up for a lemonade or something beforehand.
For info, release date has been pushed back a week to 25 Sept.
I have my copy. Very nice it is too, although it’s a shame they didn’t put music on side 4 too.
Apparently a mini album comprising surplus material from Hand is due in january according to latest post on his website.
