A very well-constructed piece, as you’d expect from Mr. Wilson, but as far as both the music and the message go, nothing very original or interesting (to me) to be found here. I think I’ll pass.
We knew it would be a departure from his previous work, but this is a long way away from his usual schtick. I’m hoping the rest of the album isn’t of this genre… whatever genre it is! He’s certainly taking a risk here; the last album alienated quite a few long term fans. This one could lose him a bunch more…
One annoyance though is the deluxe box set which is available only from his website and seems to contain some extra material not available elsewhere. I can just about manage to stretch to the £75 asking price for the box set (although if you listen to the lyrics of the song above he’s seems to pour scorn on doing that – maybe it’s all a big joke). The problem is that it would then cost me an additional £39 in postage to here in Singapore – the only postage option is expensive DHL express.
I am certainly not paying half the price of the box set in postage – I’ll order the blu ray from Burning Shed and hope the additional material appears as a download.
Really liking this after a few listens. As ever he won’t stand still and continues to challenge any preconceptions. It’s still very recognisably Wilson though despite the Human League / Depeche Mode influences.
I’m a long time fan but this is pretty dire. His last album was a bit of a let down after the brilliance of HCE and after hearing this i don’t hold much hope for the new album…sadly, i think this will be the first album of his that i pass on.
All tour dates have now been scrapped for good. While it may have been feasible possibly to do the UK leg, the European dates are seemingly untenable rendering the whole thing economically unviable. Expect a new studio album in 2022, hopefully with tour, and another the year after, plus some extra Future Bites bits and bobs in the coming months and SW’s book later in the year.
Excited! Can’t wait.
Just ordered the cassette. Yeah, I’m hip!

Yes the Facebook SW page isn’t happy. Have to say synth pop is one of my least favourite genres so I shall approach with care.
Looking forward to this.

Two of my least favourite bands. Oh dear.

I liked the last album a lot and I’ll give this one a listen but I’m not optimistic on current evidence.
Now delayed until end of January – presumably live dates will be rescheduled too.
Tour dates for next September announced – on sale on Friday.
