Tix on sale thursday
The idiots cant clarify if this is 28 or 29th October and there are only two date: one date is in Dublin, one in London, but the basic info is thus:
28/ 29 OCT 2017
BluesFest presents Steely Dan & The Doobie Brothers
The O2, London
Given they haven’t been here for 8 years, this is probably obligatory – though i hope appeal is sufficiently selective it can be moved to the more intimate Wembley Arena.
Gotta hope Micheal McDonald is back with the Doobies for this one.
DrJ says
Dublin is on the 28th so I’m guessing…
**gets calculator out**
**hammers on buttons**
**squints at the receipt**
…London will be on the 29th.
Vincent says
Impressive powers of deduction.
the poster on the email said London 28th, Dublin 29th. so they are still deciding, or have only corrected one of them. I’ll go, whatever.
DrJ says
Here’s a Dublin ad…
Junior Wells says
Doobies toured down here recently. Good reviews but no Macca.
duco01 says
Didn’t Michael McDonald sing on a track or two of the Dan’s “Aja”?
“Peg”, I think, was one, and there may have been another.
Moose the Mooche says
His bv on Peg is unmistakable. I think he’s on Katy Lied too.
nickduvet says
I Got The News on Aja too.
Broadway duchess….
Baron Harkonnen says
M. Mc? – can`t stand him.
Twang says
Don’t like the O2 but it has to be done.
nickduvet says
Much better suited to theatres. Their Hammersmith show in 2000 is possibly the best sounding gig I’ve ever been to
attackdog says
Agree with Mr Duvet. The Dan’s visit to the Glasgow Armadillo a couple of nights before the London gig in 2000 was just sublime. I’ve never heard a live show like it.
Yes, much better suited to to theatres. I never thought I’d say this but I think I’ll rest my memories there.
DrJ says
I saw them in Hammersmith in 2006, that was great. I’m hopeful for Dublin’s 3Arena, esp if there’s standing tix down the front.
Moose the Mooche says
People standing at a Dan show? That doesn’t compute. Will there be stage-diving?
DrJ says
nickduvet says
Whether or not Mike McDonald appears, there’s a good chance another ex-member (sort of) of both bands will be there. Elliott Randall lives in London and made a guest appearance with SD a few years back. They played Reelin in the years, of course, the old way. It’s on YT if you’re curious
Neil Jung says
I’d go if it was Hammersmith but I’m never going to the O2 again.
gunsofbrixton says
For one of the most sophisticated bands of all time that is a shocking website. Looks like it was built around 2002.
nickduvet says
96 actually. Some good stuff on there though, including the famous 36 rules for bands and things not to say in the studio
DrJ says
Hello. As a Three Ireland customer I can get tickets 48 hours before they go on sale generally. Well, I just got 2 tickets for the Dan and I can confirm that they’re doing standing/general admission on the floor of the 3Arena in Dublin. See you at the front barrier, nerds!
Clive says
I got two too a tad pricey tho 125 each but another 65 each for booking charges and ahem delivery
Gatz says
Each?!?! That’s more than a tad hefty.
Is that sort of figure the going rate for big-name acts with more mature audiences these days? In this case I’m not a fan so not my circus not my monkeys, but the idea that they can command more than Ā£150 per ticket including fees makes me gasp and stretch my eyes.
DrJ says
That’s eye-watering. For two Dublin tickets I paid ā¬172 (~Ā£144). Granted the seated tickets went for ā¬80-100, but I’d rather stand.
I recall from London-living days, that there are certain tickets that drop closer to the date if the gig is far from a sell out. Considering the O2 does up to 20,000, I don’t think this is going to sell out and if you’re willing to roll the dice I’d say there will be bargains to be had.
duco01 says
My sister-in-law paid 2,300 Swedish kronor (Ā£200) for a seat at a Depeche Mode 55,000-capacity arena show a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly the seat was pretty close to the front, but still – that’s a lot of cash.
dai says
Just had a look out of interest. TM states highest price is 139.25 plus 3.75 for delivery, lowest price is 52.85, not sure where 65 booking charges and delivery comes from. They currently have no tickets on sale.
seetickets are on sale tomorrow up to 100 pounds

I am not going, was just intrigued by quoted prices.
Vincent says
FFS: not only is the Sunday 29th October gig heftily priced (“we only regret our economies, never our indulgences” said Oscar Wilde), but Ticketbastard’s webpage is an effin pain. 45 minutes of loading/ reloading as it verifies, thinks, then says “please try again”. 40 years ago it was a matter of sending off mum’s cheque or queueing outside Virgin records/ the concert hall box office to secure that front row ticket for Rory Gallagher. Oh tempora! Oh mores!
Twang says
What’s the best portal to get tix for London then?
Vincent says
Well Viagogo seem to have plenty of tickets for the show, already with a hefty mark-up. Never been so difficult to buy a gig ticket in my life, and I’ve seen them all. Suspect it’s a bit of a “Royal Scam”.
dai says
General ticket sale is tomorrow (Fri) at 10am, so only fools would be paying over the odds before then.
davebigpicture says
O2 contract customers can book today through O2 Priority Tickets (which isn’t working on my phone) but I did get a pre sale email from AXS which I think is linked to Priority. I had a look and 2 x tickets @ Ā£85 each plus Ā£12.75 charges per ticket, total Ā£195.50. Don’t know what the top price ticket is but I’m not going as it’s too much of a risk of not being able to attend at the last minute due to work.
Edit: It’s listed on the O2 Priority app. Priority Tickets app doesn’t seem to work any more.
gunsofbrixton says
Live nation presale today as well. That is where I got mine. Very excited.
Vincent says
I spent 8 hours trying to get through that fricking website. Losing enthusiasm now.
Twang says
Tickets secured. Pretty short wait – only a few minutes. God knows whether we’ll actually be able to see them….
Vincent says
I succumbed. Listening to the 2009 band last night, it had to be done. Bet there’s a full Euro tour next year.
Twang says
We’ll have to have a beer….
Vincent says
Fer sure. PM me close to the time. Might be an AW corner.
Markg says
I got up early to be first in line at Ticketmaster in the Square in Tallaght ,Dublin, and was so fortunate to get the only three standing tickets they had for sale! All the rest were seats at 130 euro a pop,so guy behind me walked away empty handed…i was outside at 7.30 BTW…

I gave up up on whole enterprise at about 10.15 am today. Couldn’t find any tickets in the blocks I wanted despite being on the site at 10.02. If a bargain can be found further down the line I may take a punt, but I felt oddlt relieved rather than gutted.
I saw them for the first & only time at Hammermith July 2009, with great seats, good company & superb sound. They exceeded my expectations & I’m chuffed to have seen them undiminished.
I hate big venues, & am no fan of the Doobie Bros, so that was always in the back of my mind. Truth be told, having seen The Dan on YouTube in recent times, I’ve thought Donald has looked pretty frail & not tip top vocally. I hold them in such high esteem I really wouldn’t want to be making allowances for anyything sub par.
I’m sure. they’ll be fab, but I have saved a shed load of dosh that will now probably go towards another musical trip up to that London, later in the year.
Twang says
If it wasn’t the Dan, or the Feat with Lowell alive or the Tull when Ian still had a voice I’d have passed too. I’m excited though. Meanwhile Nearly Dan are touring and they are great.
Junglejim says
Totally get where you’re coming from, Twang & don’t want to sound all ‘Didn’t wanna go anyway’, just cos I wasn’t totally chuffed. They are, after all, The Dan & are professional personified, so they’ll be great.
I’ll always have that incredibly sticky & humid Hammersmith to cheer me even if I never see them again, which ain’t too shabby.
nickduvet says
I didn’t go that night, but I remember it was a gorgeous hot summer evening and, as I recall from the reviews, the theatre’s air con packed up. It must have been stifling. Worth it though, to have seen Randall playing Reelin’
Junglejim says
The whole event had a surreal feel, given the weather.
Randall had a grin on his face that has probably only just subsided. He looked like he might combust with pleasure!
Interestingly, they played both ‘versions’ of Reelin’ IIRC & also dipped into the back catalogues with an airing Mr Parker’s Band.
The last time I ever went full fan-boy, too. Still have both T shirts and the key ring ( what was I thinking?)
Worth every penny.
MC Escher says
In a fit of revenge for not getting any tickets I’m now going to see Nearly Dan at the Jazz Cafe in October. In your face, 02!
