Oh bugger I’m having a no purchase month. Well, I was.
Steely? Hell, yes.
Although rarely play anything beyond the classic canon from Thrill to Gaucho and, occasionally, solo Fagen.
Becker’s Circus Money was goodish, mind.
Anyway, Steely Dan, easily my most played and favouritest band.
Maybe it will go something like this.
“Southland? I never go back there since she let the color run
On the painting I gave her. In the mouth of the sun
Sits that bar. Dark and cold inside. That guy’s her guy now
And I have time on my hands”
Good news. And proof that you can buy a thrill.

Without wishing to piss on anyone’s chips, be careful what you wish for. I believe most (if not all) of these tracks are available on the web and have been for some time. They are ‘boots’.
I would hope they are endorsed by the band and if so, all well and good.
On the plus side the tracks really do convey energy and amply justify why they were regarded as one of the best rock acts out of the US.

Neato – made me check their tour schedule and they play just north of Chicago on a saturday night; I have a conference in Toronto the following week!
Anybody know if this is essentially different from the ‘Going Mobile’ set/ recording?
I bought that as curiosity overcame me, and as a document it’s noteworthy ( & listenable) but I’ve hardly played it.
An expanded set from the Alive In America gig(s) or a selection from one of their post Everything Must Go tours would *really* be something. Sadly, don’t think Don & Walt have anything like that in mind.

Worryingly,Southland is the name of a soulless shopping centre near me that I’d rather chew my right arm off than frequent.
Seems to be one of the plethora of US radio broadcasts which are now becoming legitimately available – see also Springsteen etc.
Presumably some quirk of US copyright laws is involved ?
