I recorded the show just to watch that bit and fast forwarded through a lot of the rest. Thought Stormzy and, especially, Dave were brilliant but I had to turn off after a minute of Stay With Me – just appalling.
We’re all getting on, me included, but couldn’t someone have just told them “it’s shit, don’t do it”
Unfortunately, with skins like a pair of rhinos, you can’t tell the likes of Ron & Rod anything. They do what the fuck they like and nobody has the balls to tell them “no”.
Anything with Ron Wood is going to be appalling, but Rod was especially awful in that clip, in my view. Ghastly.

To be fair I have never ever heard him doing anything remotely competent, but he’s so highly thought of I must have missed it.

Other than the weedy lead guitar playing it’s a great track. To think he replaced the man who did this…from 2.33. Mick T’s solo on “WIld Horses” is a masterpiece too.

Stay With Me is a great song and of a type they don’t make anymore. Lots of tempo changes, rollicking guitar, some high notes, subject matter being lust hence the squeals. It might have been OK in the early Seventies live, played by a band who had a few beers and sung by a singer who could hit the notes. Great on vinyl still, obvs. I had an EP with it on if memory serves.
I’m not watching. I prefer to remember them this way…

It is a proper blast – loose and tight, relaxed, 4 bods on stage just revelling in it.
Jeez, Faces were a tight band – if only they’d stayed sober long enough to stay in tune. they could’ve been fighting the Stones and The Who for the accolade of biggest live band.
That performance – sublime.

In fairness, Ron was in the Birds and (for a bit) The Creation, his brother was in The Artwoods, and Rod recorded “I Could Feel The Whole World Turn Round” with The Shotgun Express … so up till 67 they were both great!

It’s not the Faces music that is being slagged off it’s the inept, appalling performance, which you would have known if you’d been paying attention. Meanwhile minds are open enough to acknowledge something newer and good when it manifests itself. Not pathetic at all.
