There are a couple of outliers in 2002 and 2006. In order for the correlation to have been even better we’d had needed either (i) Nick to have appeared in one less film, OR (ii) approx. 10 more people to have drowned. I’ve thought about this, and I think I would rather (i) to have happened. Sorry Nick!

The last of the four movies Cage made in 2007 was a hastily-assembled Public Information film, ‘Don’t Drown in Ponds, People!’ (Dir. Michael Bay) in response to the upsurge in drownings following his increased screen activity in the previous two years.
Conversely, the sequel ‘It’s Okay To Drown In Ponds Again Now!’ was the only film he made in 2008.
Is it just me, or do those red and black lines look like the outlines of two people getting very familiar in a horizontal position?

I don’t know why anyone would call that a spurious correlation. I watched “Mandy” all the way through, wishing throughout that I had a pool I could drown myself in.
I’ve bought fewer records in 2022 (I spent seven months doing up my garage, in the company of carpenters, plumbers and electricians). And look how the year has turned out so far.
I conclude the only way out of the current economic gloom is for me to buy more records.
