For quite some time now I have been being impressed by Spotify’s discovery playlists. Basically they are MILES better than any other algorithm based recommendation thing I have ever seen

Agree. Discover Weekly is Spotify’s killer application.
Like the article said, I archive mine every week using this: https://ifttt.com/recipes/311873-discover-weekly-archive and it’s fast becoming the only playlist I listen to (which will presumably disappear up its own fundament unless I start listening to new stuff!)
I’ve just looked at my Spotify Discover list and indeed there are some songs I really like and one I absolutely loathe, Stevie Wonder’s “I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)”. I like a lot of SW’s stuff, but dislike this one even more than “I Just Called To Say I Love You”.
There’s also a song called The Ark by some geezer called Gerry Rafferty. Anyone know his stuff?
He’s an up and coming talent and I predict a bright future for him.
if you want to hold on to your discover weekly playlists there is a great IFTTT recipe that copies it to a playlist of your choice. you can then collect the tracks and prune the stuff you don’t want to keep.
