Article on BBC website about Sharleen Spiteri making an album with Spooner Oldham at Muscle Shoals.
I’ve got 2 related stories:
1. About 10 years ago we visited the Eden Project on a very wet day. Waiting for the bus to go back to the car park I chatted to the American couple waiting with us. I asked them where they were from and they insisted I wouldn’t have heard of the place. It was Muscle Shoals and they had lived there about 25 years. They had no idea of its musical connections!!!!
2. Went to see Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham in Bristol. My partner went outside for a smoke and met Mrs Oldham doing the same thing. Had a long conversation. Mrs Oldham is a chiropractor and says she spends all her time telling Spooner to sit up straight.
Anyone else got any pointless stories related to Muscle Shoals?

Spiteri enthuses over Spooner Oldham (and others including John Cougar) in the most recent Word in Your Ear podcast.
Graeme Taylor has christened his studio Morden Shoals.
What I will say is that Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham at the Borderline was my favourite gig ever. Rapt silence throughout the songs, uproarious applause after: it was like being in church: a point that me and Bobby Gillespie shared with one another at the end while indulging in a wildly enthusiastic hug (even though we’d only just met).
My tall chum’s mum was my gig buddy Bob’s girlfriend’s chiropodist.
Ughh… could you get Pete Frame to do us a diagram of that connection please?
A Venn diagram might be better.
Yes, I would prefer to see two large round things
From the couple of preview tracks that I have heard, this should be a good album.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Texas – their first album Southside is a great album that I still play occasionally.
I always think of Marvin Gaye when I hear that track by the Chrissie Hynde lookalike.
Great stories thanks Geoff.
