Sorry everyone for the extended outage on the site last night and this morning.
Some site upgrades that were applied last night barfed badly and broke everything and it took a while to find out what the actual f— had happened and then fix it.
Hope you weren’t inconvenienced too much!
I had to do the washing up to compensate for the loss.
Many thanks @rich and the team of admin.
Thanks for fixing it y’all. 🙏
Was fearing a drupal christmas
Phew !
Thank you for your service.
I suspect that if Rich was less self-effacing, he’d point out that a donation to keep the site running is always welcome!
Many thanks, Rich and the Admins (I await their first 7” waxing with interest…)
Thanks for arranging it during my sleeping hours
They’re so good as this shit they can do it in your sleep.
Thanks for sorting out out Rich, you da best.
Huge relief here. Thought I’d have to hit the single malt stash ahead of schedule – you’ve saved me from inevitable sad oblivion. Merry festives all round folks!
Have you considered hitting the single malt stash ahead of schedule to celebrate not having to hit the single malt stash ahead of schedule?
Duuuuude, how dare, OK, seems a good and transferable compliment. (I never know, is it seasonal compliments or complements. Could be either, really.)
Peter, that is genius.
hic
I have my moments.
Thanks for sorting that out. I often dip into the AW during the early hours when most sensible folk are fast asleep.
Christmas has been saved!!!
Mucho appreciated
As always thanks to the Mods – very easy to take for granted what goes on behind the scenes to keep this show on the road.
Thank you @Rich et all.
14th’d.
Keep on Mods ‘n’ rocking!
Thank you Rich and our rich friends. This place runs so smoothly that even the tiniest barff had me worried.
Hurrah! Xmas is saved! Thank you so much for all your efforts, Rich and Co. We don’t thank you often enough.
Now I’ve got all kinds of Xmassy Afterword treats to look forward.
What bizarre, grotesque beastie will Junior find lurking in the dunny on Xmas Day?
What will the Massive be serving for Xmas lunch?
And I can continue to treat you all to my favourite Xmas tunes, old and new.
Here’s is Bahamian Joseph Spence from 1972: a man who has been called “the folk guitarist’s Thelonious Monk.”
What’s Xmas without a Sanity Clause?
Thanks guys – some nervous moments there were in the Facebook bunker Down Under .….
Now, can you explain how new posts were appearing on Twitter while the site was down?
Haven’t you heard? Elon Musk has aquirred The Afterword in a leveraged buyout. Our uniforms and armbands will be arriving in the new year.
There’s an IFTTT link between new posts on the Afterword and Twitter. Although we don’t know for sure we presume that although you couldn’t see the site, it was still working in the background so that link would remain in place.
We’d love to move it to BlueSky but unfortunately it doesn’t appear, at the moment anyway, there’s an IFTTT automation to achieve that. The less we have to do with the twat Musk the better, although we appreciate that other (incorrect) opinions may be held.
We’ve lauded him greatly in the background of course and showered him with hampers, but we would like to say a public thanks to @rich. Us mere mortal Mods can handle the easy stuff and the daily cut and thrust of the site but without him, when something really technical happens with the site we’d be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.
It’s probably worth saying that if anyone out there has expertise with WordPress and plug-ins etc and would be willing to be on the end of a WhatsApp message to potentially take some pressure off Rich on the few occasions something does go wrong, just get in touch.
