@dai – noted, thank you!
@fentonsteve – any good?
Well, I always like Big Muff.
I haven’t heard this but I doubt there will be that much, if hopefully a little, attention to the ever evolving world of scots trad, getting better year by year, the definition of trad now covering vast swathes of other genres. New to me this week are “psychogaelic” funsters Awry.
Are you familiar with this fella doc? This is a great album.
I am indeed, tho’ I prefer the music of his, I presume, brother Hamish. (They are brothers, aren’t they, both bespectacled balding beardies and both in Back of the Moon?)
Whilst on topic, @bigsteviecook, have you ever been to the Knockengarroch festival. Just heard of it through a benefit album they have made to help defray losses. Sounds a marvellous wee shindig.
Never really been a festival goer(small ones only and most recent about 7 years ago), so no. Also, I don’t know much about Findlay, and less about his brother.
Findlay played at our club, but I missed him. My pal bought his cd for me knowing that I would like it. It lay in my ‘to be listened to’ pile for a couple of years. I caught him on a lockdown webcast thing on Facebook I think. He was chatting remotely with Boo Hewerdine(who is all over this album)about the songs, then playing each one in turn. I was hooked. Still am! It’s a great album. Each song is a little story about someone interesting. George Jones, Hedy Lamar, Mickey Mantle, female astronaut, boxer who died in the ring, and KFD has posted one below about the greatest conman. I don’t know his other work, but will get round to some soon. I don’t consume it the way you lot do anymore…haha!
Thanks for the tip @bigstevie. Findlay really hit the spot for me at once.
Let’s have one more from him.
Talking of songs from north of the Wall…..
Retro sent me this a few days. He quite rightly thought I would be interested.

It is some “musical postcards” sent by Scottish folk artists to the Tønder Folk Festival in Denmark.
Each artist says a little a bit who they are and where they come from. There’s a wee clip of their local area and then another showing them live in concert.

Finally, from Shetland, one to watch! Miss Irenie Rose,
It’s a canny bit of marketing from Showcase Scotland Expo which is bursting at the seams with excellent new and newish Scottish folk acts.
This is the title track from a corking CD released in the last few months. She’s a real talent, I think
