Fabulous – it was (not was) a close run thing with Jamo Thomas for track in OP.
You are a true Was (Not Was) fan, aren’t you, KFD? I remember thinking they only had two worthwhile tracks when Ze Records first came into being. I thought they were easily eclipsed by other acts on the roster. However, over time, their stature has grown as I’ve come to appreciate the value of many more of their recordings.
Damn right I am.
They are quirky, have interesting arrangements, have great singers but make imaginative use of guest artists and they write witty cynical songs.
And what are they best known for? A novelty song and a cover version!

Spy In The House Of Love was what immeditely sprang to my mind.
Sweet Pea Atkinson is a superb vocalist, in a pleasantly similar style to Wilson Pickett.
I love the corny key change up and then (especially) back down towards the end of that song.
Saw Was (Not Was) at a jam-packed Town And Country Club in Kentish Town, back in the ’80s sometime. I think it was for a BBC “In Concert” Recording. There must have been 9 or 10 of them on stage. A truly stunning live act.
