A clip of a callow youth singing a song popped up on my TikTok feed last night. It was a wonderful piece of music. It had elements of Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright and, whisper it, early Coldplay (when they were a bit more Radiohead).
It was called My Body Isn’t Ready (again, we are not his target audience – most of ours are no longer capable), But it is lovely and shows a singer with a real gift.
I recommend you give the video in the comments a listen or two.

You lost your audience at “My TikTok Feed”
I decided to be deliberately challenging. Give it a listen Lodes. It’s genuinely excellent.
Me too, sadly.
Go on Twang. Park those inhibitions and give it a play.
I can see this going down a treat with an audience of swaying wet-eyed youngsters.
The wee lad can certainly sing: is he, genuine question, like big?
Well on the way I suspect.
Back To Friends was one of the biggest songs of last year. He’s big, with the potential to get bigger still. Agree with Leeds that the new one is very good.
I’m not, I promise, being facetious or old-man-fings-ain’t-what-they-used-to-be, but what does “one of the biggest songs of last year” mean these days?
A popular song that was listened to many times by lots of people.
Now who’s being facetious? I was merely wondering how many “records” he sold, concerts he sold out etc. Tell you what, I’ll ask Claude
It seems Shane is indeed very popular! I’m off for a siesta…
I was being serious! No idea how many records he’s sold.
68 headline shows, platinum singles (which I think means at least a zillion downloads, and 250k of the album. Popular he is

Something of Jim Morrison about him. No, really, I can see him being YOOGE. Just not with me but hey.
I hadn’t clocked the Morrison until now, but you’re spot on.
Got that broody vibe, the barnet, the mic stance, and he sings large, too.
Apropos of, well – this, my father revealed to me last week that he was in attendance at the Doors debut London Show at the Roundhouse in 1968, and stayed to watch them play their second set at 4am.
Why on Earth he had never previously shared this frankly life altering revelation is beyond me. If I were in his shoes I suspect I’d speak of little else.
Who knows, maybe one day I’ll get to shock my own kids with the revelation that I saw sombr.
That makes your Dad double cool. Once for going to the gig and once again for being so nonchalant about it.
I’m getting Jim Morrison as played by Timothée Chalamet.
Ooh!!!
My immediate thought was “for your birthday or Christmas?”.
All I want for Christmas is Tim Morrison….
This is “I Can’t Go Back To Savoury Now” for the new generation.
Or its AI version “I Can’t Go Back To Sainsbury’s Now”.
Don’t go back to Costco, by Rapid Ear Motion.
Crazy Lidl Thing Called Love
Asda Way God Planned It
Aldi Young Dudes
Tesco To San Francisco.
Sainsbury Girls.
Are you going to Scarboro’ Spar?
He looks great in videos and on stage; a proper performer. In interviews he comes across as a polite, well-spoken sweetie.
I’m playing his last album as I type, but finding it pretty much indistinguishable. Is there a name for the current production fashion of making the singer sound like they’re shouting from the next room, possibly through a locked door? Anyway, that. And please make it stop.
To make a short story long, over the past few months I’ve been trying to get to the gym 3-4 days per week, usually around 7:00-9:00, so in prime Breakfast Show hours, and seeing as our gym plays wunnerful Radio 1 over its speakers, I get to hear lots of new music, and (engages Grumpy Old Man mode) the vast majority of it is dreadful tripe, BUT this track stood out like a (good) sore thumb to me, I Shazam-ed accordingly, and it’s been on “heavy rotation” chez Mickey ever since… I haven’t yet been moved to check out anything else by him, but this is a terrific track…
Bah humbug sorry. He can sing, but at the service of a piano-led ballad packed with strings and backing vocalists to signify ‘deep emotions felt here’. Painfully earnest, at least that’s what the image is. Nothing new musically here, adding weight to sons (23) contention that music is over and nothing really new happened after about 2010. Then again @leedsboy I’m no fan of any of the influences you cite. Not for me. Now let me get back to Camel’s Snow Goose live (double ackbum of course).
However applauding him for going public about erectile dysfunctions. Or have a misheard?
Here’s a livelier version more in keeping with Camel’s Snow Goose. Probably.
I’m no guitar player, but from the still above he has his capo on the seventh or eighth fret. Honest question: is this usual or does it just mean he’s lazy and should learn more chord positions?
Some people like it choked off – who are we to judge?
And bouncing into my “feed” this evening …

I haven’t much liked any of the other songs of his I’ve heard but I really like this one. It doesn’t drown the melody in noise.
Stick to your guns @Leedsboy! I’m always keen to hear a few slightly younger artists
I enjoyed this, not least because of the lush arrangement with the strings and backing vocals.
Incidentally, I was very envious to hear about @bingo-little‘s dad being at the Roundhouse for the Doors.
That gig was a double bill with Jefferson Airplane, another great favourite of mine.

Rats! In 1968 I was 15 and just a few years too young to be allowed to attend an all-nighter in Camden. Life can be tough,
I feel equally short-changed about Billie Holliday’s gig at the RAH on Valentine’s Day 1954.

True, I was only 6 months old. But surely my parents must have realised what a life-changing experience it would have been for their infant son to have experienced Lady Day in concert?
Parents eh? I’ll take your advice on the youngsters though. Good new is always exciting.
