Musings on the byways of popular culture

It’s the cars that look really old fashioned. Interesting stuff.

I thought that but I wonder if it would look less old fashioned if it was a colour photo. Plus, we’re all used to better quality images now, these are a bit grainy.

I’m a regular visitor to The Londonist site. It’s often thrown up a quirky thing to go and see that I’d had otherwise missed. They’ve got form with the picture galleries, there was recently a 70’s one possibly 1977 that was just as fascinating.

Big things were predicted for Jeremy Corbyn. I wonder what happened to him …

That photo of The Fall at HMV was in 1988 for the release of The Frenz Experiment: I knocked off school to go there.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. 1987 feels like yesterday, but it looks prehistoric!
Mick Jagger looks positively spritely. What is he, 45 or something??
Getthenet says
Exactly what I thought Arthur. Not that long ago but looks like another world.
MC Escher says
Dude, it was thirty years ago.

They’ve done another of 1990 – which to me doesn’t feel that long ago, but looks it here!

Most seem to have a filter on them to make them look older, and does anyone else think the Queen looks like she has had a head shot blown up and superimposed (this is pre Photoshop I guess) onto a small man’s body in that Terry O’Neill shot?
Native says
See what you mean. I think they are digital pictures taken of polaroid pictures, which makes them look even older. Bit I think there is a filter now to create that older look – so maybe they have used that.
I remember London been a bit of a dump in the late 80s, and the pictures do certainly capture some of that.
