I’m not complaining or anything as the place looks great, even though it still smells of fresh paint and there’s little piles of sawdust all over the place………………

BUT, has anyone else noticed that the date in a Blog post is in the 17.2.2015 order but in any replies is shown as 02.17.2015?

It’s not a big thing but I can’t handle these funny continental ways.

    I hate myself for this – and I speak as someone who spent twenty minutes trying to post a picture earlier only to realise the system was the same as it ever was, and no way could I do what Tim, Hannah and all the wonderful admins have done…
    but…
    the grey background behind the little white lines that indicate that a reply is to a previous comment is different to the overall grey but only very very slightly.

  8. When sorting out Profile, I entered my blog/website address and would have entered Twitter ID if I had one. * The field said it could be viewed by All Members.
    Question is: where do I find this? is there a separate page showing all this potential cyber stalking info?
    (I bet there is, and I’ve just blindly missed it)

    It’s great to be back home, but just getting used to the new features – probably not the last damn fool question I’ll be asking (sorry)

    *(can’t be bothered with all that say what you want in 128 characters stuff. I’m succinct at the best of times and 128 characters just seems too much)

    • @rigid-digit click on any members profile to see their website/twitter id if they have provided it.

      It goes without saying that any info you provide is at your discretion but if you wanna get more followers to your Twitter account or share your blog/personal site etc please fill these fields in that’s what they’re for. We’ve also re-instated the Beatles/Stones question from the old Word site..stats will be made available!

  10. Both I and minibreakfast are experiencing problems posting pictures in our posts.

    We are both using Photobucket to host our photos. On the old site, we were able to use either the HTML or IMG Share Links that Photobucket provides when you are viewing your library and which, as the FAQs note, can just be pasted in. Now, we either have the image link displaying as plain text, or nothing at all.

    • I’ll go blind or something replying to my own posts.

      Using badartdogs suggestion works for me – the ‘Direct’ Link from Photobucket, which doesn’t have any of the notation.

    Well done to all involved in the rebirth BTW. I haven’t mentioned it and I feel I should. I for one welcome the new form factor.

  22. For the sake of orderly feedback and following Hannah’s advice I raise the matter of introducing an equivalent to the Track function we had on Afterword Mach 1. Ethereal appeared to be support for this when I raised it on a separate thread.

  25. Splendid job all! Loving the new mobile friendly site.

    My observation is probably a minority interest. I use RSS via Feedly to keep track of the pearls of wisdom now being regularly dispensed in the new new place. Each new entry shows up twice. Is it me?

  27. Hi guys,
    I just noticed that after I just posted a review under “Reads”, now that’s the only one I can access when I go to the “Reads” section. I know for a fact that others have posted reviews there (“I am pilgrim” for exemple) but I can’t get to them from the “Reads” tab anymore.
    Or is that just me?
    Would be a shame if later entries kept hiding the older ones, I’m sure you can get to them from somewhere but that rather defeats the point of having separate tabs for the different categories.

  29. Couple more hopefully constructive comments.
    Tried a reply to a comment. Agree that the light grey is a bit subtle. I’ve been careful but couple times it still replies at the end..Wonder what smarts it would take for the reply to state what you are replying to.
    Anothery. The menu for the mobile version seems to have menu items at the bottom. If this is true then can it be at the top.

  31. some comments now appear with a red border around them – seem to be randomly sprinkled around various threads – but see for eaxample near top of this thread and also in Dark Side of the Edge thread.
    also dates on replies seems to have reverted to month first format.

  35. We have an issue with people’s username mysteriously vanishing from their posts.

    This can happen if you edit your profile and try and change your username (which for obvious reasons we don’t allow) and that’s a known bug I am working on fixing. However if it has happened without you doing this please let me know either post here or send me a PM thanks.

    • The first time I edited my profile to fill in Twitter ID, website etc. the Name field was blank, I’ve tried typing my username in there but I get an error message saying, “There was a problem updating some of your profile information. Please try again.”

      I’ve tried various combinations of caps, no caps, but it makes no difference. I simply can’t fill the name field in.

      When leaving a comment like this the field above says “Logged in as .” though my username shows up on the home screen.

  38. Happened a few more times Timmy Boy. I find in the overwhelming number of cases its me but all I am doing is clicking on the light grey reply and typing away.
    Chrome on a older version of iPad.

  42. also, not sure why it won’t let me put my name in the box when I update my profile, which means that new blog entries don’t have my name and, as far as this entry is concerned, I am logged in as “.

I noticed when I posted a film review this morning that it din’t appear in the Recently Updated sidebar until someone commented on it. i suppose it wasn’t technically update until then, but it would be useful to have all new posts appear in that sidebar – it’s one of my main tools for navigating the site.

  45. I did think that in the absence of a track function, it would be a good idea to have the red boxes around a users own comments, meaning you could easily skip to your own contributions in a thread to see any replies to you or just to catch up to the last time you looked at it.

If I write something fascinating – like a list of my favourite Pet Shop Boys albums in order, say, I might open another tab to check the track listing of Disco just to make sure I am not talking horseshit, and then I come back and …. what the…? The comments are all gone. Now you’ll never know.

  48. @tim_admin2-2 What are the chances of adding a WYSIWYG formatting tool so that we can easily add pictures?

    I doubt that it would be abused (especially if we’re still screening member requests) and it would be loads easier than asking everyone to learn bits of HTML or open a photobucket account.

    • Hi @michael – not sure how WYSIWYG would help adding pictures?

      No HTML is needed to add pictures, just need to post a direct web link to the image and in most cases WordPress will fetch and display the picture. Photobucket requires an account but I recommend using imgur.com which requires no login – very easy to add and share images and provides a direct link which you can paste here without any HTML

  54. Can new comments be high-lit or marked as new?
    Unless they’re appearing at the end of the thread there’s no way of knowing what’s new unless one reads through the whole thread. Unless I’m mistaken – distinct possibility of course.

  57. Hi Guys. the site looks great!
    Just wondering if it’s possible to view the desktop version on my phone?
    It automatically defaults to smartphone version and I prefer it the other way.
    I managed it with the old site but can’t figure it out now.

  60. Oooh, no-ones had a snag for over a month. Time to change that.

    Why does the site keep logging me out, after perhaps three days or so? It’s not for lack of posting activity. And each time I log back in, I both tick the box saying ‘Keep me logged in’, and click the button that then comes up asking the same question.

    Is someone trying to tell me something? It makes me feel unwanted.
