I need a bit of advice here. This classic album is legendary for its low volume problem, and I have seen that a remastered CD (1994 EMI Definitive Edition) is available. Now, I’ve never actually heard it, which is most remiss of as I was a huge Genesis fan way back, and regard the Hackett era very highly and still listen, so I’d like to finally sort this out and get it in my collection. Considering how bad so many remasters/remixes are, and the most recent Genesis remixes were also AWFUL, does this version stand up well sonically? I’ve read some good reviews, but can’t make head nor tail of what they go on about in the Steve Hoffman forum. It’s a weird place.
(As for The White Album 2018 remix, I was very disappointed, apart from the George songs which did benefit. Otherwise, the overall feel/character was missing for me).
