I was running the 10Km “Army Run” in Ottawa couple of years ago, was trying to pick off a few (slow) people in the last km, went past a few, but one guy stubbornly stayed ahead of me, finally got level.with him just before the finish and then realised he didn’t have any legs.
I did an 8km run in Auckland a few years ago and thought I’d done OK. It’s quite a big event, thousands of runners.
I decided to take it easy for the last bit and let people go by me. One of those who overtook me was connected to another runner by a bright cord. On the local news later on that day, they had footage of him. He was blind and in his nineties.
