Just drifted into having a bit of modern country whilst doing a few bits and pieces. Wonderful singing, heartfelt lyrics, understated but superb playing – the too cool for school crowd will hate its sentimentality and formulaic approach but I love it. Another prime example below…

Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller” arrived in today’s increment of bankruptcy from the Dodgers. That high lonesome steel sits behind most songs like the line of telegraph poles that’s always in the background as you drive to a distant vanishing point. As luck would have it, a new bottle of Tennessee Whiskey also arrived today. I’ve polished the shot glasses in anticipation of a night in.
Often put on a Spotify playlist that covers new Country. Polished heartbreak and burnished yearning though it may be. More like Rock or Pop or Hip Hop perhaps. Don’t stop it being good. Damn good.
