On the Dull Men’s page on Facebook someone has said he can’t think of a band that contains two people with the same first name. There has been some sensible and quite daft suggestions.
I’m sure we can do better.

Well Bellowhead were fronted by the two Johns, except one of them had lost his H.
duco01 says
John Bonham and John Paul Jones?
duco01 says
Dr Feelgood:
John Martin (the Big Figure)
John B Sparks
John Wilkinson (Wilko Johnson)
Lee John Collinson (Lee Brilleaux)
Four out of four (sort of)!
Billybob Dylan says
… and John Wilkinson was replaced by John “Gypie” Mayo, who in turn was replaced by John(ny) Guitar (ex-Count Bishops).
Gatz says
In Fairport’s complicated history there was a line up, albeit one which never recorded, made of 4 men called Dave.
hubert rawlinson says
@Gatz can only think of two 3Dave lineups. Swarb pegg mattacks and Rea Pegg Swarb (drummer at the time was Tom Farnell)
Gatz says
You have to do some juggling, as I don’t think this line up ever performed let alone recorded, but in 72 you could have Peggy, Swarb, DM and Rea.
Colin H says
Isn’t this the quartet that recorded a lot of dismal tracks for an unreleased album at the Manor (included on the recent 7CD FC box set from Universal)? I haven’t heard them but I understand it was a rubbish line-up.
DrJ says
They Might Be Giants is the duo of John & John.
When they expanded to a five-piece in 1994, the other three guys were called Dan. Hence “The Band Of Dans” was born.
dai says
Stones: Micks Jagger and Taylor
Tiggerlion says
The Spiders – Micks Ronson & Garson.
Black Type says
Hmmm…some from ‘ull would argue strongly that Garson is only an affiliate arachnid, not the full Spider. The correct answer is, of course, Micks Ronson and Woodmansey.
Tiggerlion says
Ah. I think of Woody as ‘Woody’.
Garson was easily the best paid.
Black Type says
Touchy subject amongst the Spiders cognoscenti…I seem to spend half my online life fielding the endless snark about ‘how badly Bowie treated the Spiders’.
Tiggerlion says
Maybe. But Mike Garson was the best paid. It was the only way Bowie could get him to join the band.
Moose the Mooche says
That’s called “Local weighting”. The amount Woody’s wage was worth in Hull was the same as what Garson’s wage was worth in LA.
IanP says
The Three Johns
Gary says
As we all know, The Wurzels included both Reg Quantrill and Reg Chant in their original line-up.
Neela says
Mel B, Mel C and Mel W (W left before the first album to work as a chimney sweeper in Bromsgrove).
Moose the Mooche says
When chim-chim-charoo become 1?
Sorry…
retropath2 says
Bryan and Brian in Roxy, with a reasonable bet that Mr and Mrs Ferry wouldn’t give their son a soft southern affectation of a y.
Gatz says
I’m not so sure. I used to know the comic writer/artist Bryan Talbot, and he comes from a long line of Wigan miners.
Arthur Cowslip says
Bryan Talbot?! Respect. I still hero worship my 80s comic artist icons – Mick McMahon, Kevin O’Neill, Glenn Fabry, Dave Gibbons, etc etc. I loved Bryan Talbot’s Nemesis stuff.
Gatz says
I was a student in Preston at the time (Bryan’s wife Mary, these days a comics writer herself, was one of my tutors in my first year). Bryan was the main mover and shaker in the Preston SF group and thanks to his contacts we had a great list of guests, including Dave Gibbons (with Alan Moore to promote the collected edition of Watchmen) and Glenn Fabry from your list of heroes.
There were too many other comics artists and novelists to remember, but reading Neil Gaiman’s introduction to a collection of Bryan’s art it seems that his appearance was the very first public event of the the kind he ever did. I still have my copy of Violent Cases from that night, with a sketch of a gangster that Dave McKean draw for me when he was a guest at a later date.
Sniffity says
Likewise! The recent Alice In Sunderland is an amazing piece of work.
illuminatus says
This is true. I loved AiS
JQW says
The Band of Susans were so called due their initial line-up featuring three members called Susan.
paulwright says
When I had a band with some mates all of us had a wife/girlfriend called Sue. I wanted to call us the wives of Sue. I was right over ruled.
Loved the band of Susan’s.
Tiggerlion says
Quite right. You were The Husbands Of Sue.
Timbar says
Michael & Mickey in the Monkees.
ClemFandango says
Paul Rodgers and Paul Kossoff in Free
Can we also include band members real names?
If so then James Williamson and James Osterburg in The Stooges
fatima Xberg says
Michael and Mike in R.E.M.
Junior Wells says
The band David and David
Beezer says
Duran Duran was stiff with Taylors was it not
Taylor, Taylor, Roger Taylor, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb.
EDIT: Oh! You wanted first names. Sorry
Paul Wad says
Not a band (as far as I know), but I used to think it was funny when the three barmaids at the Rovers Return were Liz, Bet and Betty.
Sniffity says
For a year or two, back in the early to mid 70s, ELO had Mike Edwards, Mike d’Albuquerque and Mik Kaminski.
Black Celebration says
Mike d’Albuquerque…?
Are you sure that wasn’t a hapless former drummer from Spinal Tap?
Eyesteel says
Rogers Waters and Barrett.
Gary says
Syd was Rog, but Rog was George.
Moose the Mooche says
Further Johns:
Two in the Sex Pistols – Messrs Lydon and Ritchie at your service. After leaving that band, Lydon clearly thought he couldn’t possibly be the only John in his next one, so it was one John Wardle to the low-frequency rescue.
nicktf says
The Eagles had Don’s Henley and Felder.
The Blockheads had a couple of Charlies for a few years.
Billybob Dylan says
But Charlie wasn’t a real Charlie. He was a Hugh.
Neela says
Great Swedish popabillyrhythm’n’blues combo Wilmer X has had two Jalle and two Mats. Though not all four at the same time.
Locust says
Not too surprising having double Mats’s, but considering how rare it is to find one Jalle, two of those in the same band must be some kind of record (and I don’t mean a vinyl one)!
Neela says
They are the only two Jalles I’ve heard of, I think. You’re on to something. They deserve more credit for having had two members called Jalle.
ClemFandango says
Fleetwood Mac have had four people called Bob pass through their ranks over the years
Bob Welch
Bob Weston
Plus Bobby Hunt (fill-in keyboard player in 74) and Bob Brunning (first bass player before John McVie joined the band)
Uncle Mick says
The earlier incarnation of ABC had two Marks….Lickley and White
kalamo says
Thin Lizzy had a couple of Brians,Downey and Robertson.
Moose the Mooche says
Considering the word Band is capitalised in the OP, I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned Danko and Manuel.
Abergavenny Thursday says
John Siegler (bass) and John Wilcox (drums) in Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, mid-1970s.
Abergavenny Thursday says
Richard Coughlan and Richard Sinclair in Caravan.
Abergavenny Thursday says
Leon Patillo and Leon “Ndugu” Chancler in Santana, circa 1974.
Carl says
You only need to look at Santana v1 for Mike Shrieve and Mike Carabello.
Abergavenny Thursday says
I was really scraping the barrel with that last one, and then I remembered Ian Gillan and Ian Paice, still together in Deep Purple today.
