Another one bites the dust – Freddie Jones, who absolutely EVERYBODY must recognise as one of the greatest character actors of our time, has slipped away. I can’t begin to count the number of times his amiable fizzog has brightened up my entertainment. Post your own tribute below.
Here’s my fave, where he’s bloody creepy:

Condolences to Toby and the family. Your dad was a top fellow.

From Audience by Vaclav Havel. I started watching when it was repeated (for obvious reasons) in 1989 on the basis that “Oo, there’s Frank Spencer being all serious” but was transfixed by Jones.
Oh and Crawford is brilliant in this as well – the flashes of suppressed fear and alrm in his face. Great screen artistes both.

One of his greatest roles is in one of the greatest movies, the black, cynical, downbeat Juggernaut. He plays (SPOILER!!!) the bomber Sydney Buckland, here he is at the end of the movie trying to out think Richard Harris.

He read a series of ghost stories on Jackanory when I was a lad. I’ve never forgotten.
Here’s one.
Jackthebiscuit says
He was really good in the Elephant man as well.

David Lynch tweeted a nice tribute: “I loved, loved, loved Freddie Jones. Man-o-man will he be missed.”
Tiggerlion says
He was excellent in Twin Peaks.
(Sorry, Moose. I couldn’t resist. 😀)

I resisted and you couldn’t?
I can only hope that the death of Kyle McLachlan is sufficiently distant for the Afterword to no longer exist, lest I beshame my ancestors tenfold with my baser instincts.

My son used to work on Emmerdale and got to know Freddie quite well. A lovely chap, he says.

“Give us Tiger Feet , Lads”….

By the rood, that’s a mighty clip…. Mud, Freddie Jones and a good old punch-up – that, my friends, is entertainment!

Different times back then…..

The lads played our Summer Ball at University one year, and they delivered an engaging, eclectic and thoroughly fantastic set. 600 pissed students gleefully doing the Tiger Feet thing is a sight to behold and an epic example of simple musical pleasures. No punch-ups required.
Moose the Mooche says
Eclectic? Like …. The Great Pretender segueing into Father Cannot Yell? I am intrigue!

I had no idea he was Toby’s dad. Adds to my impress.

Also appeared in Fellini’s “And The Ship Sails On”.

Always good value, and loved in The Ghosts of Motley Hall, by the estimable Richard Carpenter. There’s a childhood thing of wonder.
