This year’s wallet-emptying “celebrations” will take place across two Record Store Day “Drops” on Saturday 12th June and Saturday 17th July.
Downloadable list on the page linked.
I was a bit underwhelmed by it all last year. I liked being able to pre-order and not having to queue but with no events in store and an allocated slot to collect, it felt a bit like a drug deal. Or what I imagine a drug deal would be like. And going online afterwards to buy the left-over stock before the flippers was good.

Well … I can’t say I’m dribbling over anything yet – may need to read the drop lists a couple more times
(I do hate the word “drop” though instead of “release”)
But … first look says:
– Incredible Bongo Band and Reggae Specials being the first standout for me
– Steven Wilson mix of Vienna might be interesting (and is available on CD)
– Primal Scream Dixie Narco also on the list (no idea where my original went?)
– Heartbreakers LAMF may be my birthday present to myself
Having 4 at a rate of about 1 a month from July to October last year was probably a few too many. Not too much excites me on this year’s list (yet). Echo and the Bunnymen Live in Liverpool interested me briefly, but I see it is from 2002 rather than the early 1980s (and I have it on CD I think).
There were two that I saw on Rough Trade site that startled me. Dire Straits – Encores a 4 track 12″ for £100 and War 1971-1975 – a 5 lp set that I would have been interested in but not at £200.Do they think we are mad?
There might be some things but need to study the list a bit more. Will still visit a store on the day as I believe in what they are trying to do but not the sideshow.
100 quid for an EP? They have got to be kidding
Howard Jones 12 inch album on red vinyl for me… and a Tears for Fears live album might be worth a look.
Ugh… I look at this lot and think maybe deram has a point…
Oh come now.
Wasn’t going to comment this year, sorry “month,” on RSD, but I make the moose 100% right.
I completely agree with one of the comments below re: coloured vinly, and I’d add picture discs to that.
Now, I’m going back to my 120 track Rockabilly collection on Proper which cost me £1, a rather better bet on every level than a Dire Straits’ EP for £100.
I like the look of that new one from Van M – Sleeve Image Not Available
To be fair, that *is* one of his better titles in recent times…
Oh, I can’t wait. Another winner I’ m sure….
Sleeve image not available no plan B.
I see that one RSD release is a vinyl version of the Warren Zevon outtakes-and-demos collection “Preludes” (2007).
I’m a big Zevon fan, but I’ve never heard “Preludes”.
Does any Afterworder have this collection?
Is it worth getting?
I’m a big WZ fan and while I bought this on CD when it came out, I don’t remember ever playing it that much.
If you absolutely have to have it for your collection, I’d suggest you score a copy off Discogs
Nothing here for me. I never understood the attraction of ‘coloured’ vinyl. Or for over-priced 7″ singles of tracks that are previously available. But hey. Shops have to survive I guess…
You mean ebay has to survive…
I’m not usually interested in RSD as I don’t do vinyl at all (and I don’t think there are even any RSD shops here in Singapore).
However, surprised no one has mentioned the Tom Petty / Angels Dream release – which is a repositioning of the She’s The One soundtrack as a TP & Heartbreakers album with some new tracks and re jogged to align with the recent Wildflowers reissue. I believe that it will also be getting a digital release around RSD and a full release (replacing the current version ?) sometime in the future.
I might be in for that depending on how many extra tracks there are. I really like the original album.
Having dug through the list, there are a few of interest.
Jerry Dammer’s Ghost Town demo.
Belly – Bees will be a great comp, although I have everything on CD singles and will be buying the standard-issue black vinyl elsewhere.
Sinead O’Connor’s EP is taken from the forthcoming 30th anniversary edition of I Do Not Want… now, that I will be interested in.
Section 2’s From The Hip 3LP, an album I’d love on vinyl but it depends on what the other stuff is and how much it costs.
Tears For Fears live, also available on CD.
Carly Simon’s Why 12″, produced by Chic, which is like rocking-horse poo nowadays.
If anyone is interested, the Section 25 trcklisting is the 2CD set (£12) spread across 3 coloured vinyl LPs. Bah humbug!

Blimey, when did Why get so expensive?
When Chic came back into fashion, so about 7 or 8 years ago. Mind you, “Discogs expensive” is probably still cheaper than “RSD asking price”…
Kristin Hersh – Wyatt at the Coyote Palace – “Released for the first time on vinyl”. This puzzles me a bit because it’s been in my collection for over two years and I bought it from the tax dodgers so not exactly limited release or exclusive.
Usual rip-off bollocks for the full of wallet and hard of thinking.
The whole thing, which I think had great intentions in the beginning, seems to have all gone 6Music and “a bit 33 1/3.”
33 1/3 is a series of books about albums which I’ve posted about on here before.
It started really well, no one’s going to love all of them but, yeah, OK… after a certain time it started going a bit obscure, a bit right-on, but there are still titles for everyone.
The series is now so niche that most of the participants who made the records in the first place haven’t heard of them!
Pity, they look really nice on the shelf.
You’re right – 6 Music do bore on about it endlessly, much like they do about Glastonbury, which no doubt they will make a huge thing of again this year even though it’s not actually happening. They certainly did last year.
