This authenticity thing in rock music really irritates me, given it’s modern folk music turned into show biz and display for the mass market. All entertainment is artefice and exaggeration, and that’s what makes it fun. Being noisy and cross in front of other people who clap and give you drinks, particularly so. Maybe Crass or The Clash should have paid the audience?

Authenticity has been a curse on rock (not often pop) music nearly from the get-go. This is one of the main reasons why I much prefer pop music to rock music.
A nicely curated 45-minute playlist of pop bangers beats hands down nearly every serious (rolls eyes) rock LP ever made. Change my mind 😏

I concur, and even more so when there are sneering put-downs of ‘manufactured’ pop…like, how do you think rock or any other music is made?
