I like him too. He was a legend at Birmingham but contrived to get a move Blackburn to be closer to his ailing parents – it was actually further away. Anyway his first game back in a Blackburn shirtand he was yet to score for them. In the warm up he deliberately did his routine in front of the Birmingham fans almost certainly to wind them up.
Midway through the game he scored his first Blackburn goal. We equalised in the second half and then the Birmingham striker Robbie Blake scored the winner. Cue the Birmingham fans singing ‘theres only one Robbie’ referring to Blake not Savage. At the end of the game Savage came over to the Birmingham fans and warmly applauded them. They responded with ‘You’re still a fucking wanker’. A big smile on his face, he left the pitch demonstrating what I like about him – he gives stick but takes it too.
I’m with you. I think he knows what he is (a bit of a knob) & plays up to it. Always come across ok to me.
Very unfairly viewed as a poor footballer too & I would have loved him at my club in his prime.
I agree that he is at least self-deprecating but have you tried the Flintoff and Savage Monday night discussion on Radio 5? Aural enema.
I liked Robbie Savage as a player – he was great at Leicester – but I’m not so keen on him as a broadcaster. He’s a bit WAAH!

He’s got a bit more personality than some of the knobs who pass for pundits these days but I don’t think he offers any more by way of insight.
All an act. Nice fella
….you say to yourself, while waving to Robbie as he drives away.
Then you go upstairs and find he’s left an enormous floater in the en suite toilet…
