Great songwriter. Our Last Song Together is probably my favourite but lots to choose from…
I always found his voice slightly irritating, but there’s no denying he wrote some great songs.
This was my introduction to him, when my dad randomly brought home a bunch of singles somebody had left in the staff room.
According to Wiki, he dated Carol King, nee Klein, in high school and wrote this with her in mind. She wrote, Oh Neil in reply.
While checking Wiki, I saw he also wrote One Way Ticket, which I only knew from the disco version by Eruption.

Brilliant song. As a kid, I loved the whole album too.
I must check out the album, as it contains this gem, about as radio-friendly a record you could make in the early-to-mid 70s:

Magnificent songwriter. Apart from the hits and Monkees, Fifth Dimension and Tony Christie hits, I always liked this groovy thing he wrote for Lesley Gore

He co wrote a couple of early ABBA songs, too. We can all hum those.
Helped with the (English) lyrics only (Ring, Ring) not the tune
Was also one of the first acts to use Strawberry Studios, the resulting album is basically 10CC backing him.
Which resulted in the studio trivia “Love Will Keep Us Together” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart” were both recorded in Strawberry.
But not the hit version of LWKUT by Captain & Tennille.
The end of the C&T version has the line “Sedaka is Back”
Perhaps the most 10cc sounding song was Standing on the Inside, which is like a more “pop” version of The Wall Street Shuffle.
He appeared at Batley Variety Club quite a few times, I saw him when I was working there when I was in the 6th form. The BVC page on Facebook has put quite a few photographs up saying what a great person he was.
