That’s a great shame. I never played his music beyond the greatest hits (They Ain’t Making Jews Like Jesus Any More, and his hymn to feminism Get Your Biscuits in the Oven Get Your Buns in the Bed), but I enjoyed his novels in the 90s.
Also loved his novels though I’ve never listened to his music, which I’ll rectify today. He also had an entertaining cameo role in Ratso Sloman’s On the Road with Bob Dylan.
He stood as an independent in the 2006 Texas governor race, I don’t think he became right wing though.
Always entertaining saw him a few times in concert.
Sad to hear this. Loved the books with his entertaining Runyonesque characters. Music was sometimes a bit politically dodgy at times but wasn’t that just part of his humour, playing with some redneck country music stereotypes?

I loved the books. (Picks up the blower on the left)
Didn’t he become seriously right-wing in his old age?

His books were entertaining too.

Apparently he wrote something disparaging about the UK in World War Two. Mike Scott skewered him most delightfully and deservedly…

Here he is with one of the best songs ever written (yes I know it’s about the holocaust):
And if you don’t have the patience for that, here’s Willie Nelson (who also plays the wonderful electric guitar on this):
They don’t make jews like Kinky anymore. R.I.P.

I’m with you. The books were excellent by any measure.
