Bollocks and double bollocks. I haven’t kept up with his music since Goin’ Back to New Orleans in the early 90s and never got to see him live, but this is a sad start to the day.
Saw Dr. John at the Hayfield Jazz and Blues Festival in the late 80’s.
A real privilege to see a New Orleans legend playing only a few miles from where I live.
R.I.P. big man.
One of the few musical enthusiasms I share with my dad, I pinched his copy of the Such A Night Live In London LP twenty odd years ago and still play it today (think it’s a bit bootleggy to be honest). Saw him in Bristol a few years ago, and he was frail then, but still a showman giving a great performance. RIP Mac
One of the greats – a man who truly deserves the over used description of “legend”
Saw him a few years ago at The Barbican – wonderful gig.
Always wanted to see him in New Orleans at the Jazz Fest but sadly won’t now.
Great showman, fab songwriter and great musician.
Yes a real one-off.. I particularly liked his early seventies recordings and his relatively recent ‘Sippiana Hericane’ (2005). I was lucky to see him Live in some part of Bergen Uni in Norway in 1984….
This is funkier than Leeds Rhinos’ laundry hamper. What he can’t get enough of, I don’t know – but you probably won’t be able to get it in Sainsburys Local.

The Zu Zu Man, one more of the real originals, shuffles off into the sunset. Sad day indeed.

Absolutely glorious send off for the great man in New Orleans.
oh, that is magnificent. Look at that crowd!
Wonderful! I’m crying and smiling at the same time.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Imagine having send off like that?
Fantastic!
Fine, fine music as the good Doc covers Louis Armstrong . Go git it: http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=2478
