When being interviewed once the conversation became a bit heated and the interviewer told Bardot she was “ugly.” “No” Bardot replied “I’m Brigitte Bardot.”
She totally defined the heavily made up, ciggy smoke breathing mademoiselle in the 60s. Her later political contributions are unpleasant but man when I was 17 I prized nothing greater than my giant poster of her in thigh boots draped over a Harley Davidson. It’s here for the, um, curious.
It’s sad of course, although her outspoken, unpleasant politics will also define her reputation in France. But I like her Gainsbourg-era pop turn, as in this very French take on psychedelia.
Not for me it isn’t. I was born long after her pomp, so she’s essentially always been completely repulsive. There’s no nostalgia to leaven the contempt.
Having always known her as a slightly loopy animal rights activist with increasingly unpleasant views, I saw Le Mepris for the first time last year and there was a light bulb moment of ‘aha so that’s why she’s Brigitte Bardot.’
But I’d seen Band a Parte and Pierrot Le Fou just before and she had nothing on Anna Karina. Anna Karina4ever.
Her film career does not contain many (any?) classics so she will be remembered by me at least as just someone I would not want to spend any time with.

Famously namechecked in one of The Pretenders’ greatest songs (at about 00.39)
The first thing that came to mind – was just about to post

I don’t need to click on that…
Very of its time and a certain look that probably wouldn’t attract the same attention today. OOAA
I imagine not.
Stunning photo of a beautiful lady. With a pose as sexy as that I am not really thinking about her politics. Call me shallow.
That always struck me as an evolution from the 1950s, where there was a bit more an ingenue thing going on.
That’s a beautiful looking bike Twang!
Classic isn’t it. Hell to ride I imagine other than on very straight American roads but looks amazing.
Oof…I had a poster of her on my wall in 1972 but not as good as that.
Probably for the best that I leave it there and don’t come over as an old perv.
In which two blokes just don’t get it.

A profoundly ugly human being.
Yes indeed. But it’s possible to remember her in her pomp fondly without espousing her later vileness. Or I find it so, anyway.

“Initials BB” by Serge was about Ms.Bardot …not up to speed on posting You Tube links otherwise I would.
Serge was a genius
Thanks Dai !
Serge, I concur.
Bonnie and Clyde was a Serge/BB favourite of mine also
Awesome even if BB’s part is hardly essential
@dai
I’m not sure that’s true…😳
A female voice is necessary
also the performer on one of the finest theme tunes for post pub TV
Her film career does not contain many (any?) classics so she will be remembered by me at least as just someone I would not want to spend any time with.
Especially not now.
Chapeau, @Gary.
Hey, it’s a hobby.
