Years before The Massive (aka you lot) were moaning on about the annoying intricacies of modern life on C4’s premier late night post pub TV show ‘The Adam & Joe Show, Adam “Dr Buckles” Buxton’s father was kicking it for the old school. His trip to Tribal Gathering was particularly chucklesome.
Adam very movingly talked about his father on the last Adam Buxton podcast with Joe Cornish (not the Christmas Day one with Joe Cornish, just to confuse you) clearly still very much struggling to come to terms with everything. He asked that people didn’t send him further condolences so I am posting this here to salute his old dad who made me laugh a hell of a lot as does his son.

It was very moving to hear Adam talk about his Dad, who was wonderfully funny.
Both podcasts are worth a listen (he returns to his Dad at the end of the Christmas Day one and I got all choked up, again).

Sad news. His dad appeared on the first of the recent series (I think).

I listened to the second (main) podcast first and was surprised to hear Adam talk about his dad passing away almost casually, as if it was old news.
Then I remembered his dad appeared in a recent episode (the first Louis Theroux one, I think) so I remained confused until this thread appeared to clear things up.

I loved listening to both these podcasts, and I too was moved by Adam’s emotion in the first, and also by Joe’s friendship coming through in the way they dealt with it in a seemingly less emotional manner in the second (which somehow was more powerful). Don’t get me wrong – they’re both giggly, entertaining podcasts. These are two talented, funny, grown men who make eachother laugh like little kids, and far from being annoying, they make you glad to be listening in. I *really* miss Adam and Joe on 6 Music. Their particular brand of silliness is hard to beat.
