Obituary
A jazzer down here who recorded there reckoned it was all Erik and was a bit dismissive of Manfred Eicher’s role. That may jut have been his experience but Konshaug was pivotal to that wonderful lustrous sound.

A jazz guitarist in his own right.
But here is a favourite-
And this – Garbarek jamming with a wind harp positioned n the windiest part of the Nordic coast
And electric cellist Eberhard Weber. Colours of Chloe the popular pick but mine is Yellow Fields. Love Rainier Bruninghaus’s piano.
Love both of those albums and many more from that Label.
Here’s one I particularly like.
Gary Burton/Chick Corea – Crystal Silence
Much missed, but didn’t he die in 2019?
Errrr…. Funny it just popped up on my ECM feed on Facebook and the NY Times article they referenced had no date.
I was a bit bemused initially as I remembered an earlier thread about an ECM engineer dying and I thought it was Jan Erik Kongshaug. However, this a great opportunity to post a lovely track which I hadn’t heard at the time of the earlier thread (although the album from which it is taken, Gateway 2, was recorded in 1979). Gateway were John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette and this is just beautifully recorded. Volume and quality speakers are also recommended.
Any excuse to post this from The Tord Gustavsen Trio is more than welcome.
Arent they great? Seen them a couple of times too and were excellent live. So much space.
Yep. Frequently listened to hereabouts. Love the quartet albums too. Listening to The Helge Lien Trio at this moment. I’m a sucker for quality piano trios.
A favourite ECM artist is guitarist Terje Rypdal.
