All of the hits all of the time from Tuffnel Park’s greatest export, who I believe is a thing here.
OK it’s a BBC funded documentary I made about him coming on for 20 years ago and I might have posted it before (sorry if I’m boring you) but as he seems to have retreated from public view, reduced apparently to living in one room as the others are filled with unsold T Shirt and Tote Bag bundles from the last album but three, I thought Afterworders might take some melancholy crumb of comfort in this film, which is only otherwise still available in Mutoscope at the end of Brighton West Pier.

I think this is what you meant to post? Richard is hiding in the shadows, playing harmonica would you believe?
BrilliantMistake says
Wow, I think I last saw that ultra rare harmonica clip a on third generation VHS that was passed around fan circles in the early 80s
Lodestone of Wrongness says
Haven’t seen your doc for years – cheers!
BrilliantMistake says
Thanks Lode, that makes it feel worthwhile to have gone into the loft with a candle to dig out this original nitrate print
hubert rawlinson says
Ah BrilliantMistake surely gnot Tufnell Park but Gnotting Hill.
Twang says
Oh fab I have a VHS of that. Setting PVR – can’t see Sky Arts though…
Gatz says
Excellent. I remember enjoying this a lot at the time.
Two things stick in my mind. First, it may be the last time I saw Richard bareheaded. Second, towards the end he’s browsing a market in California and a stallholder asks why he’s being filmed. ‘I’m a musician. A folk musician.’ ‘What, like Peter, Paul and Mary?’ ‘Yes. Exactly like that.’
BrilliantMistake says
Yes that was priceless Gatz, one of those bits you know is going in as you’re filming it! We sent the film to RT to see before broadcast and apparently he was fairy muted watching it, until it got to Loudon’s observation about the post separation / still a duo Shoot Out The Lights tour with Linda, which he found hilarious.
Side bar trivia: As you can see, we got footage of one gig from that tour by kind courtesy of fan Erik Nelson, who sent on to befriend RT, shoot the video for The Wrong Heartbeat and later produced the RT soundtracked film Grisly Man and directed the similarly RT’ed The Cold Blue last year.
Twang says
When this thread popped up earlier that was the first thing I thought of. And RT in shorts.
Moose the Mooche says
Face it, you were thinking of that anyway.
Lodestone of Wrongness says
RT in shorts? I have a feeling the Afterword may well be occupied for some time yet…
hubert rawlinson says
I watched this recently, most enjoyable.

Lovely: last time I watched that was what seems a lifetime ago. Didn’t realise Michael Jerome had been drumming with him that long. Memory had Mattacks in that clip, but I also did remember it as my first sighting of the boy Teddy.
