Not impressed, I’m sorry to say. I don’t like the song much anyway, but he won’t have gained any new fans with that performance. I hope there’s something more rocking and electric from the new album lined up for the Friday show; Patty Don’t You Put Me Down, or Long John Silver perhaps. Neither were played at the RFH on Sunday but either would grab the ear more than Beatnik Walking, particularly in a show where the rock element is otherwise made up of Stereophonics and The Maccabees.

Only just realised that was Davey Faragher playing bass, touring with him as well.

51 seconds in, proof positive that Richard Thompson is a lizard-skinned alien invader with WEIRD FINGERS that go against all that God decreed when He created us.

Yup, not the best song he could have done. Hope Friday’s show has something gutsy and electric – he was great up in Scotland, recently, so he and the band can easily impress, I’m sure.

Lets come off the fence. It was shite. Lazy RT by numbers that wouldn’t have cut the mustard on a weaker album, say Mirror Blue, let alone this late and lately trumpeted effort.
Glad I watched it alone and outside the company of his naysayers who would have had their points about vocals and delivery made all too easy.
And I’m a fan.
