Singer of the Mavericks, aged 60, colon cancer.
Whilst not a great fan of the poppier end of the Mavericks, especially that awful video in a supermarket song, Away from such commercial fare, they could be a sound outfit, with Malo one of the great vocalists, in styles all across the Southern US, from orthodox country to all the tex-mex and mex variants. Well worth looking out for are his non Mavericks collabs, in which he licks a lot of cover songs into submission.
That’s a shame. Great singer. I saw him once with a very young Allison Moorer as support playing solo. He sang a fair few in Spanish.
This was a great pop country album.
Yes, they could be very schmaltzy at times but when they get that Tex Mex feel going with Raul’s wonderful voice they were great.
This is a favourite from 2013.
Yes, the video is naff, but the song is irresistible.
