The band released this track today of what they produced when asked to write a tune for ‘Spectre’
I think it’s rather good but I like the buggers. Maybe just as downbeat as the Sam Smith thing but a little more memorable

Although they could have just given em this

I have Sam Smith’s version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on my festive playlist. It’s very good, but like a lot of modern Christmas records (Sufjan Stephens, KT Tunstall, Aimee Mann, Sarah MacLachlan) he sounds utterly miserable. It could easily be Radiohead.
I’m longing for the ‘Head to make a bouncy electro-pop album with somebody like Stephen Hague. Or Martin Rushent.
The idea of that is my Christmas present to you.

It’s a wee bit more interesting than the Sam Smith song, but it’s still not much of a Bond tune.
This is nowhere near the standard of Premier League songs like ‘Nobody does it Better’ or ‘Live and Let Die’. In fact, I don’t think Thom and the boys are even at the standard of sturdy Championship plodders like like ‘Skyfall’ and ‘The Living Daylights’.
On this evidence, I reckon the ‘Head are sitting in the League One play-off positions.

I like the buggers too but that is dull. I can see why they went with Sam instead.
I’m hoping that Radiohead are inspired by Bowie, yet again, and go full-out weird.

As a pwopah ‘Head fan, I’m sad to report that I, too, found it pretty boring.
After the lacklustre & patchy King of Limbs, I need them to blow me away again…

Liked the tune in a Bond-esque kinda way, but as for Bond-proper? Nah. They could once write a killer hook or three but that seems to have deserted them (or, to flatter them, they’ve ‘moved on’). No shame in that but then why throw your hat in the ring to compose a blockbuster theme?

Watch it with the actual Spectre title sequence. I think it fits well.
