Like a few people on here, PSB’s Roce For Space is one of my favourite albums of the year so far. I think it really works well as a whiole album. A concept album about (…wait for it…) the race for space. It has some amazing moments. I didn’t like their first album so much (although I’d still recommend it; **** as opposed to ***** for Race For Space) but I loved The War Room EP, which I think works particularly well when viewed as videos:
At the suggestion of several members of this parish, I recently bought their CD Race For Space. It is quite good. My favorite song of theirs is Spitfire, which would give you a good idea what their musical style is. Should be fairly easy to find, I’ll check…
I think they’re great. Only two albums and an EP, both of which have already been mentioned here. The first album just shades Race For Space for me, but either will do you good. I’m going to see them on Thursday, really looking toward to it.
Fantastic album – on the whole prefer it to the first. Same premise, but this one works more as a whole, than a series of stand-alone tracks.
Prime cut for me is probably this:
Surely shamlessly promoting our own musings is mostly what we all do here? And, indeed, in life. I’m doing it right now in fact.
Excellent review.
I think my favourite moment on the album is when the first lunar orbit reappears from behind the moon during The Other Side.
I’d agree that they work better with a concept. The War Room is brilliant and I’m liking Race for Space too, but without a central theme the first album doesn’t really hang together. Catch them live if you can – the backdrops they soundtrack work really well.
Wow, really like this stuff. I should never open these threads because I invariably emerge a few quid lighter, but on the other hand my quality of life is invariably enhanced.
Still making up my mind about those guys: it sometimes seems to me like a rather literal-minded version of the Ghost Box “hauntological” pop aesthetic and slant on postwar nostalgia. Not saying it’s bad, just not sure myself.
