I don’t know enough about them to know why Henley in particular seems to attract so much hate. But he did Boys of Summer, which is in my top 10 songs of all time, so I’m happy to cut him a lot of slack.
Frey did Smuggler’s Blues, which is also pretty good and featured in the immortal Miami Vice, so he would get a pass from me too if he was still with us.
If anybody wants to explain why the two of them (or any other Eagles) arouse such ill feeling, I’m genuinely interested in learning more.
Don Felder’s book would be a good place to start, although obviously that’s his side of the story. I don’t think Randy Meisner was very well disposed to them either. “Change a word and take a third” was one of their gripes that comes to mind.
More info here. SDE say that Amazon seem to have mispriced the LP set, but they haven’t corrected it yet…!
I agree with the comments above about this album, although I have a fondness for On the Border too. Bernie Leadon left after this and they weren’t the same – apparently the live set is his last concert with them.
Yes, my favourite is On the Border. It seems to flow better than the others, I like the production, it has Already Gone and My Man and they still sounded hungry.

Looks like they priced the vinyl version with the CD price by mistake.. get in quick!
The Eagles had a “Best Album” ?
That’s a bit harsh, but it gives me an excuse to post a link to this, I think my favourite music related article of all time:
https://www.theringer.com/2021/05/05/music/the-eagles-glen-frey-don-henley-50-years
(It’s Desperado, anyway!!!)
Excellent article! Jackson Browne may well be my favourite solo artist but, by golly, them Eagles really, really stink …
It definitely is Desperado.
Ha a great article. The Eagles made some great music before Hotel California, a lot of dross after
But Henley and especially Frey were always complete bell ends

That’s a terrific read. Thx.
The CD/Blu Ray version has the whole lot in Dolby Atmos and Hi Res audio on the 4th disc.
Agree that it’s their best album – it has “Journey Of The Sorcerer”….
#42 in my all time top 100 tracks.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy music of course!
Point of order: their name is Eagles, no definite article.
So that’s what you call them, man. Unless you’re not into that whole brevity thing.
Quite right. I apologise.
Surely it’s The Eagles, like it’s The Yes…?
No
Well I’ll go to the foot of our stairs!
