…..I know there are a few fans of John Martyn’s music on the Afterword – here’s a clip from a live gig at Henry Afrikas club in Glasgow, broadcast on the world famous Radio Clyde. What a trio….Jeff Allen and Alan Thompson were an under- recognised team at the time….and what an end to a gig….

Big fan of early/middle period John Martyn, but not so much the later stuff. What’s striking about that clip is just how huge he got. The Les Paul looks like a ukulele in his hands
Well, by golly, Johnny – the thing is, the Henry Afrika broadcast was from 1983. Whoever posted that clip just stuck a video on with random shots from his entire career. Yer man was svelte and all limbs intact….and working with his best band since Danny Thompson & John Stevens – you did listen to it?
Pure class. Nothing more to say.
Mr Stoke,
Thank you so much for posting – what a find. That is just sublime.
In my narrow world where Steely Dan and John Martyn are the epitome and everything else is peripheral, this has just further confirmed my distance from the periphery.
And with music like that who cares?
Just wonderful.
In 1983, I was still living in Glasgow with my folks. I couldn’t get to the gig, and persuaded my mum to record it for me on cassette, off the family “music centre”. I’d been to plenty of John Martyn’s gigs in Glasgow over the years…..when I heard this one, I was pig-sick that I hadn’t been able to go…..but I still have the tape!
And now, some enterprising soul has put the whole Radio Clyde broadcast on YouTube!
@attackdog. @owlsley. Sorry, I keep forgetting to add these in when I reply to people…..
