Hi
We’ve had a handful of users reporting that the site’s not letting them publish blogs. Thanks to everyone who’s taken the time to report the error, and apologies for the inconvenience.
We’re not sure what’s causing the problem – if this has happened to you, please post below and let us know whether you’re on Mac or PC, what browser you’re using, whether you were posting a long article or a short one (if short, approximately how many lines long it was) and whether you tried to include any links in any of the boxes.
In the meantime, if you’re composing a blog, be sure to write it in Word (or similar) first, and copy it into the blog when you’re ready to hit submit, so you don’t lose your work if the bug bites.
Thanks
Hannah x

Hi H, I tweeted @theafterword1 about this when I was on me hols – not sure if you saw it. iOS 8.4.1 over wi-fi when I tried. It was a short blog piece, about 200 words. It just chucked me back to the blank https://theafterword.co.uk/create-content/post_blog/ page. Happened twice before I gave up.
JustB says
And no, there weren’t any links or tags, either time I tried.
I’ve successfully posted blogs from Mac OSX 10.10.5 since I’ve been back, if that helps.
Hannah says
cheers, I missed that tweet.
Vulpes Vulpes says
I tried a short post (one paragraph and one sentence of text only – no graphics or other inclusions, and no embedded links) yesterday evening around 8 but just got bounced back to the top of the blog when I hit “publish”. It was only a silly post parodying the Ashley Madison debacle, so I didn’t bother to try again or ponder why it hadn’t worked. I’m using fully updated Windows 7 Professional, and the latest Firefox iteration.
Hannah says
thanks Foxy
Ahh_Bisto says
Just tried it with the iPad and Safari, same problem, thrown back to the ‘Post A Blog’ page after I press submit.

Aha, so the busted flush is a chain pulled too soon, as, in fact, there have been thousands of unreceived missives from all the many and varied wildlife. Well, phew for that, eh, Dougie J?
Kaisfatdad says
I tried to post thePurple Baez thread this morning and was surprised when nothing happened. I thought it was my fault and then re-wrote it on Word and stuck it in.
That’s always a good idea when writing something longer anyway.
I was posting from a PC.

Just seen the categories not working properly on the Films/Books/Albums section – pulls in the text boxes for reads!
Bargepole says
As you already know, the Roger Waters review was lost last week – was using a pc running Windows 7 and IE9 (not 100% sure on that bit)
The second time it went on without a problem, but as you point out it would have been a good idea to have saved a copy prior to attempting to submit it.

Oh no! Quick, everyone – let’s split up and hunt for Mauritz’s post!

unable to post blogs tonight – comments are fine but clicking submit on a new blog just takes you back to another blank ‘post a blog’ page – nb now using different computer to the one referred to above – laptop with ie9
Tim The Admin says
I’ve been able to post fine, can’t see anything wrong at this end and seems that some are able to post. I’ve reversed the polarity of the neutron flow* so we’ll see if that helps. Any more issues post on here.
* disabled the Caching plugin to be precise – any WordPress geeks will know what that means.

Is that the Cloister bell I can hear?
DogFacedBoy says
I think it’s recursive occlusion. We’re caught in a space time trap!
H.P. Saucecraft says
I think you’ll find it’s chronic hysteresis.
Bargepole says
Think the problem was arising in trying to copy text from an article into the main body of the post – when just showed that as a link instead it submittted ok.
Bargepole says
Although that doesn’t explain last weeks lost review, which was just an article written by me with no links etc in it.

Twice on a Mac it was classic junior 4 or 5 paras of remarkable insight housed in sublime and deeply lyrical imagery. And no it wasn’t about the cricket.
Gave up.
Onto word first – keepers. Too spontaneous for that.

Cleared cache. Still not working.
Tim The Admin says
Hmmm. Very hard to diagnose what’s wrong as I can’t replicate the fault at this end and it doesn’t seem to be happening to everyone. @ahh_bisto if you happen to have a copy of your blog entry saved any chance of emailing me or sending me a PM with whatever you were trying to post – including any links etc and I’ll see if I can figure out if anything particular is causing it to be be rejected. Thanks.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Glad to know it wasn’t just me.
Mac OSX, Firefox.
Posts just disappearing into the ether (I have a theory they’re getting snagged in Rob C’s dreamcatcher).
Short posts seem to work, but longer pieces with photographs, links, whatever – pffffffft!
Comments weirdly unaffected.
Also – cannot html format in posts. Related?

thanks for the info folks, bit baffling as it seems to be affecting some and not others and no particular browser or operating system. if anyone has a further blog fall please report it here. and if you are struggling to get a post out , send it via the contact form and we’ll post it on your behalf until the fault is fixed.
Ahh_Bisto says
From my perspective the only change I made was to shorten the OP and then paste the longer section of my piece in the first comment. Outside of this the other main change between my initial attempt was a Java update (following an earlier OS update to 8.1) so not sure if that made a difference rather than my edit to the initial OP. I’d also tried to upload the book review yesterday I’ve uploaded in the last hour but the upload process just hung so I cut it short. Tonight, no problem but this time on a different machine to the main blog post. Again I’d made a Java update beforehand.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Still happening. If you see a “read less” it means I’ve had to resort to putting the text into a comment (not much text, either).
Twang says
AAARRRGGHHH Didn’t read this before writing review for the Wilko movie – just froze mid post….all gone….shitshitshit
Bargepole says
Well at least it didn’t disappear when you pressed ‘submit’ after writing the whole piece as happened to Bargepole’s Roger Waters review last week – Bargepole was definitely not ‘amused to death’ 😉
Beany says
The number of times I have written stuff and then am asked to log on again, thus losing my prose in the process. I ticked the box to remain logged on and I was logged on an hour before so what’s the answer?
retropath2 says
Bring back the letterbox say I. Then we can send all our posts to each other.
Tiggerlion says
I use an iPad. I can no longer post blogs and have given up. I press ‘submit’, the bars start moving at the bottom, the bars stop and the post disappears.
Tim The Admin says
Apologies to all for the ongoing issues. I strongly recommend if you’re composing a blog post, please fire up Notepad, or Word or another app and write it there and copy and paste into the blog post – that way if it fails your work isn’t lost. Will try and find a fix over the bank holiday. Keep the bug reports coming as it helps track down the problem – the more detail the better.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Could I suggest a “Read less …” as a flag that you’ve had to post your piece in a comment? Then the problem is obvious to Tim. Even fairly short posts of mine have disapeared, but getting “Read less …” accepted presents no problem.
Rigid Digit says
Blog Posts are fine (well, I can post them – whether the content/subject matter is fine is a point of debate).
Just tried to post a Nights In Article – failed (twice). Logged out, logged back in again (IT Training tells me this is the thing to do), still no joy.
Hit ‘Submit’ and the screen returns to it’s starting blank position – maybe, it just didn’t like my choice of Nights In review (or the punctuation was awful?)
PC – Windows 10 – Google Chrome
Rigid Digit says
Nah, don’t work on Firefox either
Rigid Digit says
Don’t work on Edge either (I’m assuming the massive bank of Effects pedals may have something to do with it)
Bargepole says
Yes – had exadtly that experience last week, but has been fine since, for no obvious reason.
Tim The Admin says
@rigid-digit would you mind sending me the full text you were trying to post and attach the photo you were trying to upload – it would really help me to analyse the problem – my email is tim followed by our website address.
Rigid Digit says
Posted it using the “Bargepole Bit By Bit Method” (TMFTL ?)
Didn’t like the long winded text in ‘What Does It Sound Like’ section , so I posted it below as a Comment
Bargepole says
Had an absolute nightmare posting the Blackmore article in Nights In. Must have tried to submit five or six times before it was finally accepted. Each of the previous attemps just took me back to a blank ‘post an article’ page – luckily I’d saved a copy in Word so was just able to copy it again each time.
Then tried to make a small edit to the piece – again must have had half a dozen goes, each one just going back to a blank post an article page – gave up in the end and left the article as it was – the 15 min edit window was about to run out anyway, as was my patience!!
retropath2 says
Yup, still happening: just penned my Shrewsbury Folk Festival 3 days and 4 nights out for it to disappear, as invisible as I in the AW casing thread. Booger.
retropath2 says
And again. From my Macbook.
Peeved and put off as Nights Out (and In) my favourite reference points on this site.
retropath2 says
And again from pc.
Seems pointless to keep trying, saved or otherwise.
Bargepole says
@tim_admin2-2 – Just wondered if you’ve been able to make any progress on this – the way I’ve ‘got round’ it the last twice I’ve posted reviews is to just post the first section of the article, ie ‘what does it sound like’, then post the other sections seperately using the ‘edit article’ facility – not sure if that sheds any light on it. I’ve only had the problem when posting in ‘nights in’ – posting new blogs and replying in comments seem unaffected.
Tim The Admin says
@bargepole thanks for the info. I’ve not had chance to work on this as had to replace ailing hard drive on my PC. back online now and will keep on fixing
In the mean time can’t emphasise enough if you’re writing a long piece please write in Word, or another text app first before posting. If anyone is eager to get a review up, post it as a regular blog and I’ll switch it to a nights in/out page when I get chance.
normal service asap etc
Bargepole says
Cheers Tim – your efforts appreciated as always!!
Bargepole says
although it appears there are also some issues posting regular blogs – see minibreakfast’s ‘things to look forward to this autumn’ post.
Blue Boy says
just tried and failed to post the full Van Morrison results blog entry. It was copied from Word; it took in the end without the (numbered) list which I then put in the comments
Bargepole says
I wonder if the length of the articles is a factor here – is a long piece too much to post ‘in one go’?
bungliemutt says
Generally don’t have problems posting from a PC, but when posting from a tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) posts in response to others through the ‘reply’ button stubbornly refuse to appear as a response and appear instead as a new post.
rabtdog says
for info
posting replies is fine but not original blogs
using Chrome Version 45.0.2454.85 (64-bit)
using Mac OS 10.10.3 Yosemite
writing blog in Word then pasting into relevant box on screen
544 words over 46 lines – just not possible to get it to post
Locust says
Also, @hannah and @tim_admin2-2,
is there something wrong with this tagging function? @kaisfatdad mentioned me at his “lira plays Lennon…” thread, but unlike every time before, I didn’t get an e-mail notification, and there were no notifications on either my profile page or up in the updates.
Does it work for all of you, was it just a temporary glitch?
Tim The Admin says
@locust Working ok for me – I got an email notifying of your message for example. Possible that your email account suspected it was spam and blocked it.
Locust says
No, it’s not in my notifications list on my profile page either so that’s not why I didn’t get it.
I did however get your e-mail and notification, so it must have been a temporary problem, @tim_admin2-2
Hannah says
Notifications working for me too…
H.P. Saucecraft says
Maybe this suggestion should go on the “snag” thread and not here, but could you give Beany better taste in music?
Hannah says
We’ll see if we can reconfigure the Beany “music choice” algorithm next time he comes in for an upgrade.
Tiggerlion says
Noooo! Leave him alone! The Afterword wouldn’t be the same. Beany’s taste is perfect as it is. For Beany.
You’ll be trying to fix Colin next! Then, where would we be?
Beany says
I heard that. Pardon?
It’s a blooming good job that saucy minx is not following me on Twitter. He would be positively drooling over my recent finds. I mean who does not LOVE an LP called The Band Of The Life Guards On Parade With the Music Of Abba. Eh? Eh?
Raymond says
Hi – I just tried to post something in ‘features’. It was a 2,400-word piece with no links in the text. As soon as I hit ‘submit’, the whole thing just disappeared (I’ve got it saved in a word document, so there’s no panic).
I’m on my laptop, OS is Windows 7 and Mozilla is my browser. I’ve posted articles from my laptop before, so it seems odd that this is happening now.
Raymond says
I tried posting a test and now I can’t delete it. Could one of the mods do that for me, please?
Tim The Admin says
Done
Raymond says
Thanks, Tim.
I’ve tried posting my article again a couple of times. I broke it down into smaller chunks before cutting and pasting, but it gets the same result every time; it disappears as soon as I hit ‘submit’.
Any suggestions?
Twang says
Same for me.
Bargepole says
Just to say @tim_admin2-2 that there were no issues at all in posting the Maiden & Faces reviews or in making a few subsequent edits to the pieces.
Ahh_Bisto says
For me the best option is to post a brief comment in your OP and press submit. Then post the full text as the first reply in your thread
Raymond says
Thanks, Bisto. I think I’ll try that.
Martin Horsfield says
I’ve never had any problem posting from my iPhone, but just tried to post a blog in Firefox and Chrome on desktop and both times just got sent back to the Adding Links page.
BigJimBob says
yep juyst happened to me. Firefox on OS 10.10.5
Twang says
Yep me too, can’t post review on Nights In. Happily did it in Word and saved it in advance!
