Doing a canal barge trip between Glasgow and Edinburgh and was wanting to BLAST OUT heavy metal along the way to disturb the locals and Muckle Coos.
Not really- smooth jazz of course.
There isn’t a lot of space and virtually no power so I need something that is easy to carry, is waterproof, battery powered and can be heard outside and hoped that some of the ladies and gentlemen on here might be able to help.
Thank you and Good Morning

I’ve had a UE Boom for a couple or so of years and really like it. Sounds good, ace design and easy to transport.
The new version is apparently waterproof (as opposed to the original’s “beach proof”) and is available for under £100.
A quick Google (OSEAA) of “best bluetooth speakers waterproof” or something like that may also help.
Ah. Just read you need it to be battery powered, which is a no-no for the Boom2.
UE are great. I have a UE Roll 2 and the sound is astonishing for what basically looks like a fat pancake.
That’s the one I was looking at. The Roll looks great too. There is only one cigar charger on da boat so two hours charging time should be possible. Thanks
Another vote for the UE roll. Waterproof, good battery life and good sound quality too.
Twang asked something similar https://theafterword.co.uk/atm-bluetooth-speakers/
Depending on size. The Cambridge Audio Go (formerly a Minx Go) is very good and is about the size and weight of a large paperback. Battery life is good and it sounds great.
Smaller options are the Jabra Soulmate or Soulmate Mini. My kids have the Mini and its sounds brilliant for the size. Amazon have them at £25 which is a bargain. The Soulmate is bigger and there is also a Soulmate Max but I’d go with the minx at that price.
Mrs F has had a Jabro Soulmate in the bathroom for years and it is excellent. Highly recommended.
I have a AOSO MetalBox (which cost about £20) for decorating/working in my shed. It’s very good until you turn it up too loud, at which point it mutes to protect itself. Which can be a bit annoying. I make it waterproof by putting it inside a sandwich bag.
Both are USB charged
I bought the Cambridge Go which Leeds recommended which is great and sounds lovely. It’s a bit heavy though, so for business trips I have the Metalbox which is ideal for hotel room use. We bought Twang Jr a JBL Flip (as recommended by @Moseleymoles) for his room which meets the spec in the OP – not waterproof buy resistant, sturdy, loud and rocking. I’d go that way.
Not BUY….BUT….
I have a Creative Sound Blaster 2. It’s great, but I can’t imagine it’s waterproof.
On the canal trip, I assume you’ve done some research, but just in case you don’t know – If you go directly from Glasgow to Edinburgh on the canal, you will miss The Kelpies. They are at Grangemouth, about 2 or 3 miles downstream from the Falkirk Wheel. Simply stay on the canal to the end and they’re right in front of you. Double back to the Wheel, then make your way to Edinburgh. You can’t miss The Kelpies!

Yes thanks-
It seems you really need about two weeks to do it all justice
– after which time I imagine making everyone on board walk the plank (it says here)
Smooth jazz does it every time!
As a spectacle, the Kelpies are brilliant. None of the photographs do them justice, presumably sure to the scale. We went to see them on the sunny day last August in the middle of our Fringe trip and if you’re nearby, especially on a canal, you should make the effort. If that means using the wheel it’s surely a bonus (not sure if its an expensive bonus or not! )
Unless you are expecting really bad weather I am wondering why you need your speaker to be waterproof? Are you planning to slalom over the lock gates? Thumbs up for the Cambridge from me – its weight will help overcome the vibrations you’ll get from the boat
it is scotland you know
Got the UE Roll 2.
It’s great -you can hang it up- sounds ok and is supposedly waterproof.
I’m sure the engines will drown most of the sound out but what the hell – you don’t want to annoy other people with SMOOOOOOOTH JAAAAZZZ (it says here)
Thanks for all your help
