We are about to relaunch the podcasts, and a few are already on the plan. To keep things moving, two things are required …..subjects to discuss, and people to discuss them.
So please use this thread to (a) express interest in taking part, and I’ll be back to you by a PM, and (b) subjects of particular interest to explore (accepting that general talking bollockscasts are always on the schedule).
if you want host one, interview someone specific or generally boss a ‘cast that is also great, just get in touch.
They can’t happen without you!

I suppose a podcast on wheelbarrow tyre valves is out of the question.
Asking for a friend.
if you’re passionate about it, why not. I like the Tull which is equally perverse.
Have replied to message @Twang
Euphemisms for genitalia? That should keep us going until the tape runs out.
How easily you people forget. For shame.
Did the drinks globe die in vain?
Might need to bulk it out with office chairs and printers.
Hope Mrs Thep is looking after right angle wheel barrow valve in your absence Mike.
I enjoyed the blues one and would be happy to have another go. I’ll have a think about subjects but as starters
* Electric blues
* Festivals
* TV Comedy / TV Crime drama
* Live albums
Some great ideas there F8. Love TV Crimecast particularly.
Festivals is good and the denizens they attract to their respective flames.
I like cover versions and a chunter through what makes for a good ‘un would appeal.
Has their been one on classictronica/modern classical/new age yet?
And, yeah, I have pm-ed.
Always happy to talk crap if you’re happy to edit out the ums, errs and pause-for-thoughts. I did have a load of ideas last time, I’ll see what pops into my head and update here.
Condenser v dynamic v ribbon microphone preferences?
Now, that sounds like an absolute hoot.
“Well, it’s interesting you should ask that…”
The whole internet goes to sleep for an hour
How about slightly less arcane recording techniques: live-in-the-studio vs. multi-tracking?
If it’s something I can talk cogently about, I’m in as a participant
I have the worlds most monotonous voice, and can talk ollox with the best of them.
Put me down as a “Yes”
Subjects?
– Too much music, not enough time to fully digest new albums
– What constitutes a “classic” album
– TV Sitcoms – when did they become a bit sh*t
– My favourite Motorway journey (incl favourite junctions and a guide to the best Service Stations)
– Who’s nicked my f**king wallet!
– Venues I have known – are they really the best venue, or were they just home to some of the best gigs we’ve been to?
Best and worst venues / venues lost and gone.
Count me in.
Hopefully as my kids are a bit older now they wont burst in as in the past (Progcast)!
If I think I can add value then I will talk on anythng. Live albums seems a good starting point.
Another vote for the Live Album strand
Great stuff guys. Live Album cast on the schedule.
Blowing my own trumpet for a moment, in real life I produced a top-selling live album. Does that count?
I’d interested to hear about that, on here if it was decided for some reason that the inside angle didn’t fit into the podcast.
Valves again…
Do tell @fentonsteve. Which one?
Well, I should have perhaps qualified my statement. I did not produce Frampton Comes Alive or The Last Waltz.
I produced (and project managed – exuctive produced?) Boo Hewerdine’s live album, A Live One, which is his biggest-selling album by some margin.
There’s probably enough background for 10 minutes of podcast, once you take out 20 minutes of ums and errs.
D’oh! And here was I thinking that you could Show Us The Way…
Blog Killerrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Qu’est-ce que c’est ?
Look at the gap in updates between that comment and the (my) previous one.
What are you people doing…. working??
Oh, very good. You’re on fire today, Moosey.
I’ve been busy doing occasional database mangling this afternoon. It isn’t half as much fun without a CBVD episode to listen to.
Dude, this is peak CB season and mini don’t have time for your steenkeeng podcasts – she’s got work to do. Do you want our economy to go through the floor? ‘Cos that’s what’ll ‘appen!
Yes – I would be in for the live album cast.
Would it be too introspective or celebrating our own arses to suggest The Afterword Six Years On cast?
You’re in. WOOF!
I’d be uppity for that one
Tip top
Which? The live album one or The Afterword one?
I wondered that!
Uncle Wheaty trying to participate in a podcast
Always willing to burble on, time and actual knowledge of subject allowing. Always tricky that part admittedly…
Yeah I’d be up for it, bearing in mind that I’m in Sydney. I can talk about sixties and seventies music and a bit about jazz and also about being a musician and composer if that ever fits in somewhere. And New Zealand music before the eighties.
A “bit” about jazz @Mousey. Really.
Happy to take part, Twang
Subjects. Hmm…
Favourite guitarists?
Box sets, Netflix and the death of scheduled TV?
Parenting and the challenges of looking after offspring when you’re a “big kid” yourself?
Oops, missed your Netflix comment.
Great minds… 🙂
I’ve never done a podcast but would love to be involved.
For a topic:
Is streaming a poisoned chalice? Looking at what give music meaning when you consume it, and whether so much choice makes you feel increasingly disengaged (it does me). Also, to do with how much the music you like shapes your sense of self (consciously or otherwise).
What do you think?
That echoes my thoughts (and behaviours). I’m presently reading a book called “Why vinyl matters” which makes interesting reading, even if the authour is American and sticks in zeds all over the shop.
That’s only the half of it, mate
“Presently” –
Nudge!
😉
Totally agree with you and FentonSteve.
Making music so easy to obtain makes it disposable no matter how good it is
Is streaming a poisoned chalice?
Yes it is
(and so is steaming, screaming and herring)
I have recently started subscribing to spotify. Maybe its because I havent really had the time to get to really understand how to use it, I am finding that, somehow, after well more than 50 years of buying music I find myself caring significantly less about it than I can ever remember.
Not sure if that is what you meant TRMW.
I’m always happy to have a go. Ideas for podcasts?
– what podcasts do you listen too?
– what do you spend your £50 on now?
– Sport v Not Sport. Love and hates and whys.
– Artists that have trashed their reputations. And artists that just get better.
– Going out – where have you been lately?
– Best gigs evah!
The second question …. do you really want to know?
Oh definitely. The feelgood podcast of the year….
Some great ideas here! Keep ’em coming.
Netflix and Amazon Video: the death of terrestrial TV?
Time-travel: the death of man?
or the salvation?
I’ll tell you previously.
Your comment is why up arrows were invented – PMSL.
I know footie isn’t universally loved here but a fair few of us do – how about who you support, why, best / worst games, footy collectables, your own playing exploits, fantasy leagues, TV games back then and now etc.
Also further votes here for guitarists, fave podcasts. Maybe one on music bios?
I could bore The Afterword with my thoughts on Fantasy Football strategy
Enjoyed the one cast I’ve done and always willing to participate again in the unlikely event that we go for something I know anything about (Van, Sir Bob, the mighty Spurs, er, that’s it).
A Waterboys podcast I would be well up for.
Ha! Well … water boys…
…please yerselves
Late as always, but I’ve only just seen this thread via the latest podcast!
Thoroughly enjoyed doing the last Beatles one – here are some thoughts…
– The Beatles non-album releases – singles, EPs (we always just talk about
their albums)
– The ‘new’ White album
– Live venues past and present, and who we saw there (maybe before fame) would be good (as mentioned above
Having noticed that there are a few of us on here that are in bands or used to be in bands I think a good topic would be “Gig Stories”. Tales of happenings in the life of a working musician. What Word Magazine used to refer to as the “Hoary Old Rock Anecdote”.
Any takers?
We need a Reggaecast, don’t you think?
I have this image of somebody carefully packing Plaster of Paris around an enormous spliff.
