So we hope you have been enjoying the new podcasts after our brief hiatus due to a cross between life getting in the way and frustration to the total lack of indifference \ feedback received. Someone complained recently about feeling down after not getting much response to a post it took them 2 mins to write. Try spending an evening recording and then the best part of a day editing it only for people to be too lazy to give you a thumbs up or even a “Yeah, good” post.
Pearls before fuckin’ swine, you black balling bastards
*lies down and does his breathing*
only joshing, I love you all.
So last year as the snow was falling and auld acquaintances were being forgotten we had an open line to The Massive and anyone who wanted could join in and tell us about their year, what they listened to, or whatever was on their mind. So we thought we’d do it again this year. So at some point in December we’ll have a podcast session at a time when as much of the world’s population can take part. So if you wanna join in then keep em peeled
Also my fellow Whovians may be excited that my pal Rachel Talalay has directed this year’s finale (starting this Saturday with ‘Heaven Sent’ and concluding the following week with ‘Hell Bent’) and has consented to joining us in the pod again. So any questions (not theories or anti-Moffat rants) will be gratefully received. Not just about Dr Who but the subject of sexism in TV\film industry is a hot topic these days so we’ll also discuss that in a way that doesn’t get her in trouble.
With a ‘Peak Vinyl’ podcast in the bank and others planned it’s going to be a packed end to 2015. Hope you’ll all join in

Great work DFB! And talk about a celebrity guest. Seriously impressive.
For quite a while Dr Who has been making serious waves internationally. And now, with the recent release of the Lego Dimensions pack, the Tardis and the daleks are going to become even better known, to put it mildly.
Kaisfatdad says
Blimey! Lego have taken this seriously and included all the past doctors.
The Lego Batman, Star Wars and Indiana Jones games have all been a delight of nerdy wit and inventiveness. Can this live up to that? A hard act to follow.
But I do like, for example, the small detail here that the sequence with the Hartnell Dr Who is in black and white.

Thanks to you and Twang and all who take part for the podcasts. I do listen to them all and having taken part in a couple, I can appreciate how much work it is to edit them (especially all the rambling nonsense from *some* people )
I would really encourage people to take part- good fun and they are chaired very well so you always get an opportunity to chip in. Not as nerve-wracking as you might fear.
Twang says
To be fair, people do pop in to say they haven’t listen to it, nor do they intend to, and could you talk about something else please (other than the stuff they haven’t listened to). Which is feedback of a kind, I guess. ?
chiz says
I’m afraid I don’t listen to them, but that’s not a comment on their quality or the expertise of the editors and presenters, which I’ve heard is very high. With limited downtime and so many competing attractions, I don’t get round to them. Hence the lack of feedback.
retropath2 says
Timely reminder, Dogfboy, and a reminder to all us (or at least this one) ungrateful churls who forget to thank for the work done and enjoment received . Apropos Ruby, they are fun indeed for the odd one or two done
davebigpicture says
I really enjoyed the Rachel Talalay one and I do listen sometimes but not to every one. It depends very much on the subject. Sound quality is loads better than a lot of the Hepworth/Ellen ones and that’s a major thing for me. I won’t struggle to listen if the levels are up and down, especially if I’m in a noisy environment.
Please keep doing them.
Ainsley says
For what its worth I’ve enjoyed them all, even those where I thought the subject matter might not be “up my street” and I’d encourage anyone else to listen. I usually listen in the car (although I do admittedly do a fair few miles with work) and podcasts are great as an alternative to music (and definitely instead of the radio).
fentonsteve says
I download them but listen in bulk when I’m doing something like decorating. They often make me laugh like a drain. Please don’t stop.
I’m up to the Irish Roadtrip so far, with two kids’ bedrooms to paint over the forthcoming festive break.
fitterstoke says
Ditto: I have them all downloaded & lined up, but I’m seldom able to give a timely thumbs up, as I seldom listen to them immediately.
But, boy! I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to them….the “Dan cast” was a hoot, the Feat cast was MOST enjoyable, Twang’s Tull interviews have been eye-openers….
Sincere apologies for not expressing my enthusiasm sufficiently frequently……and please keep up the good work……
minibreakfast says
I’ve enjoyed many of them. I suppose I don’t leave comments as I don’t feel I’ve anything sensible/valuable to add. In future I’ll endeavour to leave at least a thank you and “well done”. (Looking forward to the Peak Vinyl pod.)

So is everyone who took part and have seen other podcasts posted since thinking “did I dream that thing”
Tiggerlion says
I listen to most of them. The fun part is hearing Afterworders speak, even if the topic is not normally of interest to me (Jethro Tull, for example).
Are you able to count ‘listens’?
Twang says
No, it’s really hard to tell. We can see how many downloads there have been but not how many were streamed from the site. And leave the Tull alone, synth pop boy.
Tiggerlion says
OK
I tend to stream from the site when I have a bath once a week. Is that too much information?
Bingo Little says
I generally listen if I’m interested in the subject, which I usually am. I think you’re doing a great job – the podcasts feel really polished and it’s nice to put voices to names.
You’re still scandalously light on discussion of Ver Bizkit, but I guess it’s up to you if you’re happy to leave downloads on the table.
KDH says
I’ve listened to them all (bar the last Tull one which I will get around to), and got something from each in varying degrees – inevitably I like some more than others, but even when it’s a subject I’m not interested in the enthusiasm for the topic carries it through and makes it enjoyable. Long may they continue, and thanks for all the effort put into them.
Now, about that Kate Bush one you “promised” us about a year ago…☺
Diddley Farquar says
I’m a regular listener. Gets a thumbs up from me. I am curious to hear familiar Afterworders speak and mostly get entertained, even enlightened, by the contributions. I admire the effort made and care taken with musical snippets, editing, theme tune, jingles etc. Don’t stop!
Twang says
Cheers Alli. Appreciated!
JustB says
I’m afraid I’m not a listener to podcasts, period, so I don’t tend to listen regularly. I enjoyed the mental health one.
My only alone downtime is on my commute and that’s when I listen to music or news. I’ve no space for podcasts in my life, which isn’t at all a comment on the quality of these ones, which I’m sure are excellent if the few I’ve listened to are a guide. I’m just not the target audience: I’m not a podcasts kinda guy.
Twang says
Just as well, the things people have been saying about you. That @rubyblue was shocking. ?
RubyBlue says
Shhhh! You said you weren’t taping that bit where we slagged off the Massive members. 🙂
Carl says
This is weird. I posted a comment earlier but it is not there.
What I said was you can count me in DFB.
I don’t listen to all podcasts, but have tuned into a few. Not enough time and other things to do.
Beezer says
I listened to the first few and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Then I stopped getting involved with The Afterword. Dropped off the blog for a period. No reason at all for either. I love you all madly – but had absolutely nothing to say or any inclination to try . Not sure why.
Anyhow, I feel inclined to get myself ‘casted up once more. I enjoy listening to some people I know!
DogFacedBoy says
We planned to do the Kate Bush one to coincide with the release of the film and audio of the live shows
I hope to still be alive when that happens
SteveT says
Coming to this post late but I for one have enjoyed participating on a couple and love listening to the others where my Brummie accent is thankfully missing.
Malc says
Keep ’em coming. I listen to most of them, but not immediately, so I tend not to comment largely because everyone’s long since moved on. Some podcasts I listen to (the footy ones in particular) are more time-critical; if I don’t listen within a day or two there’s no point. So the others (AW, Word, In Our Time etc) have to fit around them. Recent ones such as those on mental health and girl bands were really good.
DogFacedBoy says
Th e title and subject are key to people’s interest but maybe sometimes put people off.
The Riot Grrrl pod is more an examination of the place women take in musical history and how that gets lost or discarded over time. The Amy Winehouse one looks at the documentary but also on the media, celebrity culture, how we treat people with addiction and mental issues as well as her music.
So give em a try even if the (usually awful pun) title is not appealing
