Recently, our kids have rather fallen for the charms of Wallace and Gromit, and particularly (in my son’s case anyway) The Wrong Trousers. I think I’ve seen the sequence below more times than I care to mention over the past few weeks, but without tiring of it. It’s probably my favourite piece of animation. It’s got humour, drama, action and is so beautifully paced and timed that it grabs you from start to finish. Add to that the wonderful piece of music behind it and you can see how it won the awards it did.
So – here’s a weekend challenge. What’s your favourite piece of animation? It could be from a film, a music video or a cartoon.

Fabulous stuff.
How big is Wallace’s house, though?
Ha ha – those Victorian terraces go back further than you think.
It is something that occurred in many Looney Tunes Bugs Bunny cartoons, but I have loved since childhood the line “Of course you do realise this means war”
or again
Terry Gilliam’s flights of fancy on the TV Monty Pythons. The vision has forever stayed with me of an old lady tripping up a double decker bus.
That is superb. The pram that eats people is a favourite of mine too.
The movie What’s Up Doc when I realised Babs was channeling Bugs.
I know (albeit distantly, these days) the lead writer of many of the mega-successful CGI and Claymation animations of the past 10-15 years, including some Wallace and Gromits, and I love his stuff, but I still think that Bugs & Co in ‘What’s Opera, Doc?’ is unbeatable.
I’m a big fan of animated films so I really don’t know where to start.
Aardman, Studio Ghibli and much else besides.
The opening sequence of A Cat in Paris will do the trick. Cool jazz soundtrack and a daring cat burglar leaping over the rooftops.
Talking about opening sequences, how about The Pink Panther? My favourite is The Return Of…
